Topic: BUG SDK / Avoiding Java: low level C API?

That’s a good suggestion.

One can interact with the physical modules from C, C++, or any other language that supports native code. In fact, our OSGi runtime layer uses JNI to access the linux device drivers via system calls: read, write, ioctl, etc..

Another alternative is to interact with the web-services that each module exposes. For example, to take a picture with the camera you can do a GET on http: //<mybugsip>/service/Camera. To see if motion was detected you can GET http:// <mybugsip>/service/Motion. This allows you interact with the hardware via HTTP which most languages support one way or another.

Topic: BUGmodules / Alternate types of battery packs.

We recommend using 5v since that’s what we’re using and testing on here. If you don’t it shouldn’t fry the unit, since there is a voltage regulator in the BUGbase.

I just measured the battery, it is 4×1 5/8×1/16.

Hope this helps!

Topic: Suggestion Box / for robotics usability

Hi Stephan!

Great story :). I do know that 2 camera modules can be connected at a time to a BUG. Also we should have extender cables at some point to allow the off-base leverage you are looking for. I do not know what fieldbusses are unfortunately… I think the Von Hippel module will be of use for at least some of what you are looking for…

Topic: Applications / What about components?

I have been using both the PositionHelper and VKey libraries you guys wrote on some apps I’m working on, they are very helpful, thanks a lot.

They definitely belong on BUGnet even though they are not full apps, sharing the utilities is almost as important as the full apps because they will enable people to jump in and write bigger new apps in less time. Maybe we should start tagging them with "utility" or "library" or "component" when we put them up on BUGnet and put "application" on the full ones.

What do you guys think?

Can you refer to these links to see if there is something with the settings on your Fedora or perhaps Firefox itself:

Topic: BUGmodules / 3G/Mobile Phone Module

Hey Guys,

The good news is these types of modules are under consideration. The bad news is I don’t have any further details for you.

I will say that your feedback is key in what modules we will developing in the future. At some point we plan on making this process more formal (e.g. polls).

Topic: BUG SDK / Unable to download app (FC8)

I can check later – on another machine right now – but I pulled it from http://www.buglabs.net/sdk/testing/current/ via Eclipse last night. I did the same the day before on my MacBook directly and it was able to download apps; not sure if you guys made that change that recently.
