Topic: Java / App layer (Java) access to Handylink serial terminal on base I used the RxTx library rather than javax.comm, but it didn’t seem to go on the BUG, I think I had the wrong binary for our ARM. We should look at it tomorrow. |

Topic: Java / App layer (Java) access to Handylink serial terminal on base I'm going to take a look at this tomorrow. Everything compiles with javax.comm, and I got so far as to test that you can use the serial device at the app layer... actual communication though, not yet... One way to test is to send your app to the BUG that just sends junk over the serial connection, and on the host just cat /dev/ttyS0 (or in our case, because we use a serial to USB adapter, cat /dev/ttyUSB0)... |

Topic: Applications / AppRemover Hey all, I took down AppRemover because it’s no longer necessary. To remove applications you can use the remove-application button when you right-click on applications from within the SDK. The dev team is also working on making this functionality (and other much cooler app-manager things) accessible from within the BUGbase menu. Hoping to have this done by R1.3. |

We use the Phoneme project which is a fully open source VM/library stack based on the CVM. There is also the CacaoVM (different from the CVM), JamVM and Kaffe. The IcedTea project recently started booting on ARM, but that is on the bleeding edge. |

I was just looking through the site and I realized that you are running java on an ARM. I wasn’t aware yet of a JVM that was available for ARM. Can you provide me with the details on it? Is it fully featured? Where can I download it from? Thanks |

Topic: Official Updates / BUG rootfs R1.3 is will be based on OpenEmbedded/Poky See Ken’s official post about it here: http://bugblogger.com/bug-adopts-poky-linux-155/ Poky makes a great fit for BUG’s use-case, and it’s super exciting. If you’re just itching to get a pre-beta poky image onto your BUG, check out some notes about building your own poky rootfs here: http://bugcommunity.com/wiki/index.php/Kernel_a… If you run into problems, please feel free to edit the wiki with more information, and/or drop into our IRC channel to discuss it. Enjoy. ;D |

Topic: Java / App layer (Java) access to Handylink serial terminal on base Did anyone have success down this road? What about the rxtx library as opposed to javax.comm? |

Topic: BUGmodules / GPS Woes Actually, because it’s come to our attention that some of the earlier BUGlocate GPS modules are not performing as well as we’d hoped, we’ve decided to send an external antenna gratis to all customers who currently own these units. Look out for these over the next couple of weeks! We’re hoping this really helps improve your overall BUG experience, and wanted to thank you again for being part of our community. And thanks to John for all of his testing to determine which antenna would be the best one to send to you guys! Jenny |

Topic: BUGmodules / GPS Woes Quick update: GPS antennas really do the trick.. I wouldn’t buy a 90-degree MMCX connector antenna though. Insertion and removal should be done delicately, and the 90-degree angle makes me nervous about detaching the external-antenna mount from the board. If this happens to you, be sure to email support@buglabs.net. |
