BUG to N810 serial hack

On his blog, cmw just posted details (and pictures) of yet another awesome BUG-related hack. After building the first homebrew BUGmodule and following up by porting Quake to the BUG, cmw shows us his latest invention - a little level-shifting thingamajigeroo that interfaces two serial devices. In this case, a BUGbase and a Nokia N810.

"Since most embedded hardware has a serial port (typically hidden in an obscure place) I decided to build a device that would allow me to attach to these embedded machines with limited to no effort ... I used some micro wire from an iPhone headset and cut up a simple small connector to use. After enabling serial using 0xFFFF it works perfectly."

Head on over to cmw's post to read more about how he MacGuyvered the whole setup.

There is no module that exposes TTL serial, the Von Hippel exposes only RS232.  You need a TTL/RS232 adapter to interface with the N800, so no duplicate effort here.

im glad it works. way too creative device.

@goon there IS module which exposes TTL serial !

There is NO bug module that exposes TTL serial nor does the handylink connector expose TTL serial. So please do explain how this is a duplicate effort?

Yay, another way to duplicate effort instead of purchasing the breakout module or using the bug base connector.
