Hi Everyone, I am MSc Student at TUHH and doing my research on open source hardware. what is not open and rather closed for community from BUGLABS |

Hey Fasiha! BUG’s community helps us to develop new products and functionality as they take our platform, modify and enhance it and give it back to the community (attracting more users). Our community also helps us with improvements (and QA), notifying our team with desired features and defects (or fixing defects themselves and contributing them back to us). Many companies (and individuals) are drawn to using BUG as a solution because we are open source. They are free from licensing restrictions and are able to modify/use our product in a ways they can not with a more closed system. Giving and being part of a community also feels good :-) As far as what is open… The BUGbase and module schematics and are open and published on our site – hardware design specs, layouts, schematic captures, BOMs and gerber files can be found here (http://bugcommunity.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware…> There may be instances where a module will have a chips or parts from a vendor that has a proprietary, closed, model and they do not want us sharing details of those specific elements. This notwithstanding, our goal is to be as open and sharing as possible. We believe this enables and fosters innovation. I hope this helps and good luck on your research. |
