Every season for every team seems to have its defining moment. Marcus Gilbert Jersey . Take the Blue Jays
2011 season. From June 10-12, the Blue Jays were home to the Boston Red Sox and
it was an unmitigated disaster with Boston sweeping the three-game set to run
their win streak to nine games, outscoring the Jays 35-6 in the process.

Brett Lawrie joined the team, you always knew deep down, the Jays wouldnt make
the post-season after Boston took them apart in that series. The Jays could have
a similar defining moment this week. They play six games on the road over seven
days against Tampa Bay and Texas. The Rays have already beaten the Jays four out
of five times this season, all in Toronto, and swept the Jays last week at
Rogers Centre even when they didnt have the injured Evan Longoria and
Desmond Jennings. Tampa has already racked up the top home record in the
American League at 15-6 and the Jays have never had much luck at Tropicana
Field. The Jays did take two out of three from Texas a couple of weeks back at
Rogers Centre, but the Rangers didnt have Josh Hamilton, who was out for the
entire series with a back issue. If the Jays split on this trip, it will keep
them right in the thick of the race for a Wild Card spot. But if they were to
lose say five out of six, it could damage the team psyche. A winning trip could
spur this team on to its first post season berth since 1993. The Jays are coming
off a 4-3 homestand, which was better than it looks since they dropped the first
two games to the Rays. Sweeping the Yankees and then opening Interleague play by
taking two out of the three from the Mets is bound to give this team a boost.
They also won three out of four while Brett Lawrie was out of the line-up
serving his four-game suspension for the helmet-tossing run-in with umpire Bill
Miller last Tueday. This week is going to be huge. Level Of Excellence The Blue
Jays have five players honoured on their Level of Excellence at Rogers Centre.
The team has only ever retired one number, the #12 of Roberto Alomar, who was
inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last July. Still, it bothers me a bit
every time I see Henderson Alvarez wearing Dave Stiebs number 37 and Rajai Davis
in George Bells number 11. This is no slight against Alvarez and Davis, but
those numbers should be reserved for great players. Just sayin. Striking It Rich
And how about David Wells, the former Jays lefty who turned 49 this past Sunday.
He bought a Babe Ruth game-worn cap in the late 90s and actually tried to wear
it during a Yankees game on June 28th of 1997, before being told to remove it.
Wells paid $30,000 for that cap. He had it sold at auction over the weekend for
