MEDINAH, Ill. Mike Iupati Jersey . —Tiger Woods finally showed up at the Ryder Cup. Too bad it wasnt soon enough to count. Woods and Steve Stricker lost their third straight match Saturday, falling 1 up to Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald despite a furious back-nine rally by the worlds No. 2 player. Down 4 at the turn, Woods made four birdies on the last six holes to give the Americans a chance to salvage the match. But he couldnt make the one that mattered, getting the right distance but wrong line on a 22-foot birdie putt that would have been worth a half-point. “We fought hard. Unfortunately, it just wasnt enough,” Woods said. “We gave ourselves two good looks and 18, and didnt get it done.” The Americans lead Europe 10-6 and need only 4 1/2 points Sunday in singles to regain the cup. But they have gotten nothing so far from Woods, a shock considering the success hes had in match play with Stricker. Woods will face Francesco Molinari in the anchor match. Woods is 13-17-2 in the Ryder Cup, but he seemed to finally have found the right partner in Stricker. They arrived at Medinah with a 6-2 record in match play, including going 2-1 two years ago at Celtic Manor. But they were downright dismal in the opening foursome, and came up against one of the finest single-match performances in Ryder Cup history Friday afternoon. European rookie Nicolas Colsaerts beat Woods and Stricker 1 up without any help from Lee Westwood, making an eagle and eight birdies. For the fourth time in seven Ryder Cups, Woods has left the course the first day without a point, and U.S. captain Davis Love III decided to give him and Stricker a break Saturday morning. “I put so much effort into that last match yesterday afternoon, and I was pretty spent,” Woods said. “Im one of the older guys, and its nice to get a little bit of rest.” Woods still looked sleepy when it came time to play, and Stricker had to carry them early. Woods knew he had to pick it up, telling former President George H.W. Bush he “needed to play better” when 41 said hello on the sixth hole and asked how things were going. Once Woods got on track, though, he was relentless. He won his first hole on the par-5 10th, running his second shot through a bunker and over the lip before the ball finally came to a stop, 15 feet from the pin. He missed the eagle by 2 feet, but the Europeans conceded anyway. He put his tee shot to 5 feet on the par-3 13th for another win, paring Garcia and Donalds lead to one hole. The Europeans went back up by 2 after Woods missed an 8-footer on 15. But Woods came right back, sticking his approach on 16 to 9 feet and rolling in the putt. He pointed at the hole as the ball dropped in, prompting one of the loudest cheers of the afternoon. “I knew we had to make birdies coming in,” Donald said. “You never give up against Tiger and Stricker. They are a formidable pairing and they played great on the back nine.” Woods put his tee shot on 17 within 4 feet and Europe captain Jose Maria Olazabal, sitting behind the green, winced. But Donald put his just a hair closer, holding his club high when the ball landed. McIlroy pounded him on the shoulder as they walked to the green, and Donald made the putt to clinch at least a half point. The Americans had one last chance, even after Woods botched his putt. Strickers 7-footer lipped out, however, and the Americans came up empty. Again. “We (won) six out of eight holes and had a chance on 18,” Woods said. “Just didnt do it.” NaVorro Bowman Jersey . – Andy Roddick sprinted forward to scoop up a ball near the net, then backpedaled for another shot, leaping, stretching and swinging in one desperate motion. Frank Gore Youth Jersey . (June 2, 2012) – The weather would not cooperate with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Saturday at Circuit ICAR. http://www.49ersfansroom.com/colin-kaepernick-jersey . On a day when F1 could again focus more on racing than politics, the Bahrain Grand Prix was held without a hitch as Vettel completed a wire-to-wire victory in a race that was completely unaffected by the ongoing anti-government protests that escalated this week. Vernon Davis Womens Jersey . Impressive? You bet. Surprising? Not really. But how about this: Dale Earnhardt Jr. left the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Sprint Cup Series points lead. Kendall Hunter Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla.CALGARY – Jessica Zelinka may be Canadas busiest track and field athlete in London. The Canadian record-holder in the heptathlon hasnt completely ruled out racing the hurdles at the London Olympics as well, says her coach Les Gramantik, after posting a couple of world-class hurdles times this season. The London, Ont., native, who was fifth in the heptathlon at the 2008 Beijing Games, is competing in both events at the Canadian Olympic track and field trials this week, and is one of six women in a jam-packed hurdles field who has achieved the Olympic qualifying standard in that event. “Ill talk to her, right now honestly it has to be a very interesting decision to do a hurdles race in London as well as heptathlon,” Gramantik said. Zelinka overcame chilly, blustery conditions to run 12.76 seconds in the hurdles on Day 1 of the heptathlon Wednesday, matching the time the 30-year-old ran last month to win the Harry Jerome Classic in Burnaby, B.C. The only Canadian quicker this season is Olympic bronze medallist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, whose 12.64 is currently fifth-fastest in the world. The opening round of the hurdles in London is two days after the heptathlon ends. “Its not impossible but they are hard runs and many races,” Gramantik said. “Here she could probably qualify (for London) with a 13.0-seconds run, but youre not going to get out of the semifinals or quarter-finals in London with 13 seconds. “But the other thing, the rest of the world isnt running very fast. The U.S. trials was won in 12.77, slower than her time here.” Gramanntik said he and Zelinka, a six-time Canadian heptathlon champion, will decide after Saturdays hurdles final whether to double in London. Colin Kaepernick Elite Jersey. Athletics Canada will name its London team on Sunday morning. “Im not trying to build any suspense, Oh, whats it going to be? Really, we dont know,” said the veteran multi-events coach. “If things go well and she does really well here, Ill be happy to have the two (hurdles) races, and close the book on hurdles for this year.” Canada enjoys an embarrassment of riches in womens hurdles, but only three Canadian women can compete in London. The other women who have achieved the qualifying standard are 10-time Canadian champion Perdita Felicien, Angela Whyte, who was sixth at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and Nikkita Holder and Phylicia George, sixth and seventh respectively at last summers world championships. Felicien, who trains with Zelinka in Calgary, joked about her training partners recent rise up the hurdles ranks at the opening news conference Tuesday. “The field is the deepest its ever been,” Felicien said. “And thanks Jessica for joining the fray.” Gramantik hasnt been surprised by Zelinkas fast hurdles times this season. “Shes always had superb abilities as a hurdler,” Gramantik said. “She could have been a world-class hurdler if she chose to, if that event wasnt so boring. . . one event is boring in her mind, she likes to do a lot of different things (the heptathlon is seven events), otherwise she could have been very successful in hurdles too.” ’ ’ ’
