Sparkfun Electronics is one of my favorite places to find new gizmos to play with, and they recently posted this:

it’s a tilt-compensated compass module. This would be pretty neat to have, I think, in conjunction with the GPS module.. however, determining heading from GPS information isn’t that hard.

With that and an accurate three-axis accelerometer, one could probably come up with a decent inertial positioning system.
