Thanks for the info.  Ran those tests, and it must be a manufacturing defect.  I sent a note to support@buglabs.net yesterday, so I’ll wait to hear back on replacement process.  Kind of a bummer!

Yes, it is a bummer.  Sorry about the touchscreen issues.  The issue at hand is that there’s a separate delicate ribbon cable connecting the screen to the PCB.  In transit or at the final assembly (or a mix of both) there exists the possibility of the connector sliding slightly, dislodging it from the connector.  We’re working to improve our process to ensure that this is caught and remedied before shipping, whenever possible.

We’ll find a way to make it up to you.  Do you have a stinger?

Hi, John.  I have a Professional Bug Bundle, so yes, I have a Stinger.  Don’t sweat it.  The best help you guys can be is to get me up and running with a working BugView2 and to be patient with my Bug Noob questions.  I have a lot of experience in the world of sensors, control, and web apps (and a ton of Java coding), but new to your programming APIs, OSGI, and embedded Linux.  I’m CTO of a company building a platform for wiring all this stuff together to enable rapid creation of really cool apps (http://www.thingworx.com).  I want to leverage the Buglabs hardware to build a few demos and prototypes, and have some ideas for a few production-level devices for building monitoring, home automation, asset monitoring, and in-car telematics, though they’re a bit farther off.  Near term is to get our office wired up with a bunch of sensors and to use the Bug as the gateway to our cloud server(s). 

Good news was that I was able to get the Bug sending data to ThingWorx in only a few minutes.  Most of the help I’ll need is going to be “best practices” (read: sample code and step-by-step) for accessing the various modules, plugging in sensors to the Von Hippel, and possibly integrating Phidgets via the USB ports on the bug.

Anyway, I hope to hear from your support team Monday about how to get the BugView swapped out and onwards from there!
