EAST RUTHERFORD, N. Russell Wilson Seahawks Jersey .J. —
Mariano Rivera knows its not likely, but the New York Yankees closer has not
ruled out the possibility of returning this season—just a little over a month
after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The 42-year-old Rivera, baseballs
career saves leader, injured his right knee while running after fly balls in
batting practice in Kansas City on May 3. A blood clot in his leg delayed
surgery until June 12. A full recovery from ACL surgery generally takes
six-to-nine months. “Id love to be playing right now,” Rivera said Saturday. “I
want to be playing, but I have to be smart and let time do its thing. I dont
talk about it (a timetable). I just do what I have to do to get ready and
whatever happens happens. I dont want to rush it and think I can come back too
soon. I have to be patient.” Rivera was at the New York Giants facility,
watching Chelsea Football Club practice in preparation to face Paris
Saint-Germain on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman
told reporters that Rivera is “totally out” for the 2012 season. But Rivera, who
was 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA with five saves before the injury, doesnt want to think
about that. “Were doing things little by little,” Rivera said. “What were doing
with the rehab is great. I dont want to go too fast, do something wrong and hurt
it again. Its all part of a process. Once I go back on the mound, I want to be
100 per cent ready.” Rivera has not done any running yet, nor has he begun to
throw a baseball. But thats not going to deter Rivera, who has earned 608 saves
in his 18 seasons with the Yankees. “It is hard,” Rivera said. “Im doing a lot
of moving and stretching. It definitely hurts. Im not going to lie. It gets
stiff if I stand for too long or if I sit too long. In the morning, its tough.
But I feel good and excited about getting back. Im just taking it all
day-by-day. I would love to come back sooner than what (the doctors) say, but I
know it takes time.” Rivera said that he doesnt feel pressure to get back
sooner, because the Yankees are winning, sitting atop the A.L. East by a
considerable margin. The Yankees began play Saturday with a 57-36 record, eight
games better than second-place Baltimore. “The good thing is that the team is
doing great,” Rivera said. “It makes it easier for me to concentrate on what I
have to do. It gives me a peace of mind.” It also helps that Riveras replacement
as the Yankee closer, Rafael Soriano, is having a brilliant season, posting a
2-0 record with a 1.46 ERA and 24 saves. Soriano has blown only one save all
season. “Soriano has done a tremendous job,” Rivera said. “The whole team has
done well. The whole bullpen has been tremendous. I always talk to Soriano, just
like he did when he came to the team. I talked to him about how to pitch in New
York. Hes done it before (as a closer with Tampa Bay, getting 45 saves in 2010).
He doesnt have to prove anything.” Rivera has been going through his
rehabilitation in New York and visits with the Yankees during every homestand.
Still, its been tough being away from his teammates on a regular basis. “I dont
want to be here,” Rivera said. “Id rather be with my team. Its part of the game.
I have to accept it and I have to move on.” There was some talk of Rivera
retiring following this season, but thats not going to happen—especially not
after the knee injury. “I love the game and I love the competition,” Rivera
said. “I love being on the field. Im not going out like that. I definitely want
to go out on my own terms. Im just going to do my part and the rest is out of my
reach.” Rivera watched Chelsea F.C. practice, then traded jerseys and posed for
pictures with some Chelsea players after the session was over. “I was a soccer
player in Panama,” Rivera said. “I love the game. I watch soccer all the time. I
have a strong passion for it. Its something I enjoy. I could have been a soccer
player, but the Lord chose baseball for me. I think it was the best decision for
me.” Russell Wilson Elite Jersey . Roy Hodgsons
team reached the quarter-finals at the recent European Championship, while
winner and world champion Spain remains top of the rankings issued on Wednesday.
Golden Tate Jersey . “Broken collarbone
confirm. Small break, not displaced but Mark and Adam won medals so Im smiling.
Off to the park,” Whitfield tweeted Wednesday. http://www.seattleseahawksprostore.com/k-j-wright-jersey
. All he had to do was be himself. His start Saturday was as good as any hes had
since an unimpressive first two months. The right-hander struck out 11 in seven
innings to help New York end Chicagos winning streak at four games by beating
the White Sox 4-0. Bruce Irvin Jersey . Manager Clint Hurdle
thought A.J. Burnetts solid outing on Sunday illustrated that idea perfectly.
Burnett allowed one run in eight innings for his 16th win, and Josh Harrison
tied a career high with four hits to jumpstart Pittsburghs offence in an 8-1 win
over Houston to avoid a sweep. Cortez Kennedy Jersey . Agent Mike McCartney
confirmed reports that the veteran was let go, with the Bears facing a deadline
Friday night to trim their roster to 53 players.PHILADELPHIA—Michael Vick has
needed four medical tests through two preseason games and has completed only
four passes. That is an ominous sign for the Philadelphia Eagles. The three-time
Pro Bowl quarterback left Monday nights win at New England after injuring his
ribs on his sixth play. He lasted just six plays against Pittsburgh before being
forced out by an injured left thumb. X-rays on Vicks ribs at the stadium were
negative, and an MRI and CT scan on Tuesday revealed he has no broken bones or
fractured cartilage. Vick has a contusion of his ribs and of the soft tissue
surrounding it. He also needed X-rays on his thumb, and those tests were also
negative. It is likely Vick wont take another snap until the Eagles (No. 8 in
the AP Pro32) open the regular season at Cleveland on Sept. 9. “Im just going to
play it by ear,” coach Andy Reid said after the victory over the Patriots. “Im
not going to say anything about where were at with that right now.” Considering
Vick has been injury prone—he missed three games because of rib injuries in
each of the past two seasons—it seems risky to play him in the last two
preseason games. The Eagles visit the Browns this Friday and host the New York
Jets on Aug. 30. Then again, Vick looks as though he needs work. “If he didnt
play again (in the preseason) then hed be OK,” Reid said. “I would tell you Id
probably like to see him play a little bit more, but hes got enough experience.
Were not talking about a rookie. I think hell probably be OK.” Vick has led the
offence to just one first down in 12 plays. The Patriots werent even using their
starters against Philadelphias first-team offence. “I think we should have
performed a lot better than we did, especially since it wasnt their first string
out there,” right tacckle Todd Herremans said. Zach Miller Jersey. “We should have been able
to run the ball a lot easier earlier in the game.” Vick was injured on a hard
shot by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham after heaving a deep pass. In hindsight,
it was a busted play, and Vick probably should have dumped the ball off short
instead of throwing deep and exposing himself to a big hit. Vick vowed
throughout the summer to avoid the reckless play that often has landed him in
the trainers room. But he dove headfirst on a running play before getting
knocked out of the game. The thumb injury in the opener was on a freak play. He
banged his thumb on centre Jason Kelces helmet on his follow-through while
making a pass. “Im not that concerned other than the fact that he is hurt,” Reid
said. “I want to make sure that he heals up and gets back out there. And
hopefully he doesnt get hurt again.” Rookie Nick Foles, a third-round pick out
of Arizona, replaced Vick and had another impressive performance. Foles was 18
for 28 for 217 yards and two touchdown passes. Foles entered camp competing with
Mike Kafka for the backup job. So far, Foles is 24 of 38 for 361 yards, with
four TDs and one interception for a passer rating of 118.4. “Michael Vicks the
leader of this team. Hes a tremendous quarterback and a tremendous leader,”
Foles said. “They were very confident when I stepped in because those guys have
been together and they know Im going to go out there and play as hard as I can
for them. “There is a sense of confidence in there, within the unit. And I was
just going to go out there and execute. The line did a great job protecting, and
our receivers did a great job getting open, so my job was really just to stay in
rhythm and get the ball to our players.” ’ ’ ’
