Hello, We have a BUG Y.T. edition since 6 month aprox. and we forget the root password (we changed it). Talking in the IRC chat we found a way for reinstalling the OS in the microSD card but we didn’t annotate the steps. The problem is that ATM the device don’t boot correctly. The lighs turn on for a while but after this the device turn off and can’t see anything. Could someone tell me where can I find a guide to restore or reinstall the OS for this device? |

hi mlasala – The bug starting and then shutting off shortly after is because it couldn’t find the file uImage (kernel). We have u-boot shut the bug down if there is no kernel so that it won’t drain the battery etc. If you attach the Stinger and set up the serial console, you should be able to see what is happening when the boot fails. There are directions for loading the root filsystem onto the micro SD card available on the wiki , following those will get the latest loaded up for you We also have a document of troubleshooting tips on the wiki that you might find useful. Hello, We followed all the steps and seems to finish correctly. But when we start the device we can see this output through screen app: U-Boot 2010.06-00709-g0bfe830-dirty (Dec 10 2010 – 00:16:39)
It seems like no microSD card was inserted but i’m pretty sure it was. Do you know what are we doing wrong? |

Hi Mariano - I think something may have gone wrong when partitioning the micro SD. If you put the micro SD in a reader on your Linux workstation and run sudo fdisk -l what output do you get? |

Hello, This is the output for #sudo fdisk -l: Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes I remember that there was some issue while writing the partition table with fdisk /dev/sdd1 command. But We saw that the System is Linux and thought it doesn’t really matter. |

Hello! I’ve been following again all the steps for the “Update Your BUG Memory Card” task and I realised I was doing one thing wrong. At the step we have to do the # sudo fdisk /dev/sdd I was doing # sudo fdisk /dev/sdd1. Now we’ve finish this step correctly but we get the same error: U-Boot 2010.06-00709-g0bfe830-dirty (Dec 10 2010 – 00:16:39) Any idea what’s going on? Regards, Mariano Lasala |

Hi Mariano - That is indeed strange. Here’s how I would go about troubleshooting the issue. It may be as simple as a missed step, or a bad card. 1) I would wipe the entire sdcard sudo dd /dev/zero /dev/sdd 2) Redo the fdisk /dev/sdd , after you do that pull and replace the sd card and make sure the partition shows up (cat /proc/partitions) 3) do the mkfs on /dev/sdd1 , after that is complete run file -s /dev/sdd1 4) Pull the card and replace then see if it automounts. 5) untar the release onto the sdcard. run sync. run sudo df -h /dev/sdd1 it should be rought 403M used and 1.4G available 6) umount /dev/sdd1 and run sudo e2fsck /dev/sdd1 If you run into any issues along the way, I’m in the irc channel #buglabs as grund and can answer things right away |
