I just received my BUGbase and started to play around with it, but I was disappointed to notice that the 2-line LCD screen on the base didn’t have any sort of backlighting (which makes it really hard to see anything).

Then looking through the menus I noticed a setting to turn the backlight on and off. So I tried turning it to ON but the setting keeps returning back to OFF after I leave the menu (even after pressing the select button) and the backlight never turns on.

Does the LCD really have a backlight? If so, how do I go about getting it turned on? Do I have a defective unit?

You may have a defective LCD backlight. Let me confirm in the morning and get back to you.

Yeah I actually talked to support and they think it’s the same thing too. So I have a replacement shipment on the way. Thanks!
