Is there any way to get at the NIC that’s built into the iMX31 (i.e. eth0)? Even without WiFi, it would be nice to plug the bug into my router and not have to have a computer turned on all the time in order to interact with the bug. This would be useful in security applications, remote webcam, and so on.

Is that NIC exposed on the HandyLink? If not, will it be on the von Hippel?

Dave,

We've just received some ethernet/serial/power adapters from manufacturing. Below for some pics I took with the BUG:

Obviously, these are not enclosed and are not production units. The size and configuration may change, but we are planning on offering these on http://store.buglabs.net in the very near future.

The NIC is exposed through the handylink, but it's not as simple as crossing a few wires from a Handylink cable to RJ45. More details when I have them. :D

Hi,
if I read your schematics correctly all that is needed to use the MAC is the magnetics and a RJ45-connector. So if I used a RJ45-connector with built in magnetics such as SI-60002-F it should be as simple as connecting pin 9-15 of the handylink to the SI-connector. Right? Now, what kind of connector is the handylink and where can I find a component fitting in it?

I'm not on the HW team, but from what I understand, there is a power constraint on the Handylink terminal such that an external adapter card is required. It will not be sufficient to just straight-through wire the Handylink pins to the corresponding ethernet pinouts. :(

You can however find the cables required for interfacing with the handylink connector by going here: http://www.molex.com/product/io/handylink.html. I would suggest getting the handylink->handylink connector as you'll maximize bang for buck.

Thanx for the info! Are those power constraints documented somewhere?

I’ll check in with our hardware team and try to get some information online ASAP. I’ll let you know.

Hi John,

Thanks for answering this one. However, I believe power is not an issue; you can connect an RJ45 jack directly. The only constraint that I know of is that you get a connector with built-in magnetics like this one:

Any more news about the Handylink/serial/ethernet adapters? I’d love to have ethernet or some way to connect the BUG the world at large without it being tied to a second computer.

So i built a handylink to rj45 cable using a HALO HFJ11-2450E rj45 jack with magnetics. I took a look at the datasheet for the 9215 and confirmed the pin outs on the wiki are correct and it doesn’t need any external power (as far as i can see).

I wasn’t able to get it working. I’m not completely convinced it wasn’t a driver issue as i put a scope on tx-/tx+ and generated some broadcast messages from the bug but didn’t see any traffic on either pin. I checked the magnetics and the cable.. couldn’t see any issue.

The lack of utils on the bug by default was a pain. I compiled ethtool and tried manually forcing 100/full but still didn’t see any change. Maybe Angel can shed some light on it? :)

I compiled ethtool

Not that it will help you now, but FWIW you can often get OpenEmbedded recipes to build for the BUG by just copying them into the meta-bug/packages dir and doing a bitbake (see http://community.buglabs.net/finsprings/posts/19-Pulling-in-an-OE-Recipe for an example).

I checked and ethtool was there, and it built for me in my trunk (pre-R1.4) tree just fine. I put the ipkg up in case it's useful http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/395371/ethtool_6-r0_armv6.ipk, but again note that it's R1.4 not R1.3.

Thanks. I think it is a driver issue. I tried both R1.3 and R1.4 but had same results. I booted into redboot and was able to get it connected to the network. I could even see the bootp requests on another box and the router was showing it had auto negotiated.

Is BUG Labs planning to sell Handylink -> Ethernet/Serial adapters at all? I’m a bit lazy when it comes to soldering, so if you don’t sell them, it’s going to take me a long time to muster enough ambition to make my own… here’s hoping for a nice, prebuilt adapter!

edit: Pardon me. Didn’t read previous posts carefully enough. Rather, any idea how soon they’ll be shippable?

Isn’t it funny how we www.coachfactorystoreec.com/ Coach Factory Store always want what we can’t have? The girl with the round and pert backside wishes that her rear were 5 times smaller. Meanwhile, the girl with the non existent posterior wishes to achieve a larger butt. Well, if the grass is greener on the other side, just water yours! If you’ve got a small behind, you can create the illusion of a larger one with butt enhancing jeans. Here’s how to do it. Look for light weight denim – This material is very stiff and heavy. If you try to stuff a flat butt into denim jeans, it will only create a flatter looking behind. A little stretch goes a long way – Your butt enhancing jeans should additionally contain some stretch. A mixture of 98 percent cotton and 2 percent lycra is best. This combination of lycra and cotton, especially when it’s in a nice tight-weave fabric that’s fitted through the hip and thigh area will help lift your buttocks. Too much lycra and your jeans may start to ripple like a pair of leggings. If there’s not enough cotton content, there won’t be enough structure to hold you up. It’s all in the pockets – The most effective trick for creating the illusion of a bigger butt is to choose jeans with flap pockets. The added bulk of the flap will enhance and add dimension to your tiny tush. True Religion is notoriously famous for their flap pocket designs. You can also try Hudson, Rock & Republic, Frankie B and Paige for addition flap pocket styles. Pocket placement – If you’re not a fan of flap pockets, or if you’ve already bought too many of them, you can also try denim with regular pockets. Be sure to aim for a pair with smaller pockets that sit higher and this will help make your rear look lifted. Cut is also important – Look for jeans with a slight tapering at www.coachfactoryonliness.com/ Coach Factory Online the knee, such as a straight leg or skinny style. This cut will make your bum look a bit larger in comparison to the rest of your body. Great styles to try are True Religion Billy, Julie or Stella, Siwy Harmah or Rose, and Hudson Emily or Paige. How low can you go – Actually, you don’t want to go too low when it comes to the jean rise. The goal is to project more, not less. A pair of low rise denim will only reduce the size of your rear. Instead, opt for a pair with a medium rise. Color me right – Since dark colors minimize, dark denim and indigo will create a slimming effect. You do not want this kind of effect on your barely there behind! Try to find light colored or medium blue denim. Grey is very flattering and will also work. Like a great bra, butt enhancing jeans can also lift and www.coachfactoryoutletusa.com/ Coach Factory Outlet separate what little you have. So it wasn’t in your genes to have a nice, round bottom. Big deal. Be happy with what you’ve got and just improvise!
