ST. Pat Angerer Womens Jersey . LOUIS —The way
Carlos Beltran was swinging, Atlanta Braves relievers felt as if they had to
face the St. Louis Cardinals cleanup man every inning. Jason Heyward got the
swing that really counted, hitting a two-run homer in the 12th inning of a 9-7
victory Friday night, putting a damper on the Cardinals celebration honouring
former manager Tony La Russa. “I thought Beltran was going to beat us every time
he came to the plate, and he almost did,” Heyward said. “I just got enough of
it. I tried to stay simple, not try to do too much.” Dan Uggla homered and
Michael Bourn had three hits for the Braves. Craig Kimbrel gave up a hit, but
struck out two for his NL-leading 11th save in 12 chances. Beltran homered twice
during a four-hit day for the Cardinals that also included a two-run triple.
Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig also went deep. “Anytime youre seeing it well,
its a good feeling,” Beltran said. “Unfortunately, we just couldnt finish them
off.” A sellout crowd was on hand to watch the Cardinals retire La Russas No. 10
in a pregame ceremony that included several of the managers former players. But
seven Atlanta relievers combined for 7 1-3 innings of one-run ball, helping the
Braves end a seven-game losing streak in St. Louis that included a three-game
sweep last September that propelled the Cardinals past Atlanta for the NL wild
card on the way to their second World Series championship in five years. “Theyve
had a good team here for years and they have another good team,” Heyward said.
“Our pitchers hung in there, our defence hung in there.” St. Louis loaded the
bases in the 10th and 11th, but came up empty against Livan Hernandez (1-0).
Pinch-hitter David Freese grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the
10th and Craig popped out to second to end the 11th. “We had some opportunities
to finish it off,” manager Mike Matheny said. “We just couldnt make it happen.”
Chipper Jones, who got a standing ovation before his first at-bat to begin his
final scheduled series in St. Louis, walked against Kyle McClellan (0-1) to
start the 12th. Heyward followed with his fifth homer to the power alley in
left-centre, close to the wall decal of La Russa unveiled several hours earlier.
Beltran tied it at 7 in the eighth, driving Jonny Venters pitch to the visitors
bullpen in left-centre. Beltrans team-high 12th homer was the first of the year
off Venters, who hit his first batter of the year later in the eighth. Beltran
had a grand slam and six RBIs in a two-homer game at Arizona on Tuesday. He now
has 33 career multihomer games, including three this season, and has 10 homers
and 31 RBIs in 91 career at-bats at 7-year-old Busch Stadium. Hes 11 for 26
(.423) during a six-game hitting streak. “From the eighth inning on, it seemed
like Beltran hit every inning,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “I was looking to
see if somebody was batting out of order over there. “Every time we left a
mistake out over the plate, he hurt us.” The Cardinals are the majors
second-highest scoring team and the Braves are third, and the matchup lived up
to that billing. The Braves scored twice on passed balls in the first when
Yadier Molina couldnt track down Jaime Garcia pitches that darted. Atlanta then
doubled four times in a span of five at-bats in the third to give Mike Minor a
5-1 lead. Beltran and Craig homered in a span of three pitches in the fourth for
St. Louis, which chased Minor with four consecutive two-out hits in the fifth.
Beltrans 11th homer was estimated at 454 feet, second-longest at Busch, and his
triple in the fifth put the Cardinals up 6-5. Uggla hit his fifth homer off the
facade in the second deck in left against Marc Rzepczynski in the seventh and
Freddie Freemans infield hit with the bases loaded put Atlanta up 7-6 in the
eighth. Minors last three outings have been the worst of his short career. He
surrendered six runs in 4 2-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season, and
has an 11.81 ERA the last three while giving up 21 earned runs in 16 innings.
Garcia has been just as ineffective lately, allowing 12 earned runs in 10 2-3
innings his last two starts with a pair of no-decisions. Garcia gave up five
runs, four earned, in 5 2-3 innings against Atlanta. Notes: Carpenter started at
3B in place of Freese, who got a day off aside from the pinch-hit appearance.
... The Cardinals had targeted Friday to activate 1B Lance Berkman (calf) off
the 15-day disabled list, but he remains day to day. ... Braves pinch-hitter
Eric Hinske was ejected after striking out in the eighth and arguing that he had
checked his swing. Hinske is 3 for 18 as a pinch hitter and the Braves are 8 for
51 overall (.157). ... Craig has four homers in five games. Reggie Wayne Jersey . The Dodgers have
reportedly claimed both Gonzalez and Beckett off of waivers. Gonzalez is in the
first full year of a seven-year, $154 million deal, negotiated with former
general manager Theo Epstein after a trade sent him to Boston before the 2011
season. He is hitting .300 with a .343 OBP, .469 slugging mark, .812 OPS and 15
homers this year, one year removed from his debut year in Boston, when he hit .

wasnt his. Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman hit two-run doubles, and the
Atlanta Braves scored six runs in the first two innings to beat the Miami
Marlins 6-1 on Thursday night. The 40-year-old Jones had two hits and is batting
.316 in his final season before retirement. The Braves, 6-1 on their 10-game
homestand, remained 2 1/2 games behind first-place Washington in the NL East.
They won three times in the four-game series. The Braves led 6-0 when a
42-minute rain delay in the fourth inning spoiled Minors excellent opportunity
for the win. He didnt return after the delay and thus didnt qualify for the win.
“Its frustrating, but we got the win and thats all that really matters,” said
Minor, who has not allowed more than two runs in five straight starts. “Weve got
guys in the bullpen to pick me up. Its a win-win situation.” Minor, 24, gave up
two hits in 3 2-3 scoreless innings. “I think youre looking at a kid who has
kind of realized what he is capable of doing,” Jones said of Minor. Braves
manager Fredi Gonzalez said protecting Minors arm was the smart move. “Its a
situation when you always try to do the best for the young man,” Gonzalez said.
“We didnt think running him out there was prudent.” Miamis Jose Reyes led off
the sixth with a triple to left field, giving him a 20-game hitting streak to
match his career-high. Reyes scored on Carlos Lees sacrifice fly. Jason Heyward
had three hits and drove in a run for Atlanta. Cristhian Martinez (5-2) took
over for Minor when play resumed in the fourth. Martinez allowed four hits and
one run in three innings. Braves closer Craig Kimbrel stranded two runners in
the ninth, striking out Emilio Bonifacio to end the game. Making his second
start since coming to Miami in the trade that sent Hanley Ramirez to the
Dodgers, Nathan Eovaldi (2-7) gave up six runs and eight hits with one walk and
one hit batter in two innings. It was the shortest of his 18 career starts.
Eovaldi said he had a good curveball but had little success with his fastball.
“They really just sat on the fastball, even the ones I located, and they hit it
well,” Eovaldi said. “It was just one of those nights. “I felt like I never got
in that good groove. Every time I felt like I was ahead, I didnt get guys out.
They took all my off-speed pitches and jusst hit the fastballs really well. Vick Ballard Jersey. quot; Eovaldi yielded
only one run over 5 1-3 innings in a 4-2 win over San Diego in his Marlins debut
on Saturday. Chad Gaudin followed Eovaldi with four scoreless innings, allowing
one hit and one walk. Gaudins innings were especially crucial for Miamis bullpen
before Fridays doubleheader at Washington. Dan Jennings added two scoreless
innings. “Once again Gaudin went out there and pitched well for us,” Marlins
manager Ozzie Guillen said. “The bullpen didnt let them score any runs. Great
job. I didnt think we were going to make it but those guys, they saved our
bullpen.” The Braves sent nine batters to the plate in their three-run first
inning. Following singles by Reed Johnson and Heyward, Jones hit a two-run
double and scored on Dan Ugglas single. “We hit some bullets and kind of set the
tone,” Jones said. Eovaldi gave up three more runs in the second. The
right-hander hit Johnson with a pitch after giving up a single to Michael Bourn.
Heyward drove in Bourn with a single to left and Freeman added a two-run double
to right. The Marlins had a depleted bench for the game. Third baseman
Donnie Murphy was scratched from the starting lineup with flu-like symptoms.
Outfielder Bryan Petersen was held out with a sore right shoulder he hurt while
diving for a ball in Wednesday nights game. Outfielder Justin Ruggiano was held
out with back spasms. Petersen walked as a pinch-hitter in the ninth.
Gorkys Hernandez, acquired from the Pirates on Tuesday, was 0 for 4 in his first
start for Miami in centre field. Marlins left-hander Dan Jennings loaded the
bases in the eighth on two walks and a hit batter. Jennings escaped the jam but
limped off the field after covering first base on Heywards inning-ending
grounder to first. NOTES: Reyes also had a 20-game hitting streak in 2005 with
the Mets. ... Johnson made his second straight start for the Braves, this time
in left field, following his trade from Chicago this week. Martin Prado, only
6-for-28 (.214) in the first six games of the homestand, was given a day off.
