LAS VEGAS —Nick Diaz collected a minimum of US$275,000 for his weekend win
over former welterweight champion B. Dwight Freeney Jersey .J. (The Prodigy) Penn
at UFC 137. According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Diaz earned a
basic purse of $200,000 with a $75,000 bonus from the UFC for fight of the
night. Diaz had no win bonus listed. Penn, who lost by decision on Saturday
night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, picked up $225,000 including the fight
of the night bonus. He missed out on a $150,000 win bonus. The figures do not
tell the whole story since the UFC does not detail all of its bonus payments.
Lightweight Donald (Cowboy) Cerrone had a profitable night. He collected
$129,000 for defeating German Dennis Siver, including a $27,000 win bonus and
$75,000 for submission of the night. Silver made $27,000. Featherweight Bart
(Bartimus) Palaszewski made $112,000 for his KO win over Tyson Griffin. That
included a win bonus of $18,500 and $75,000 for submission of the night.
Griffin, who was penalized for failing to make weight, picked up $25,500.
Heavyweight Roy (Big Country) Nelson made $40,000 for stopping Croatian veteran
Mirko (Cro Cop) Filipovic ($75,000). In the co-main event, French heavyweight
Cheick Kongo earned $140,000 for his decision win over Matt Mitrione ($10,000).

first of two hip surgeries, the 34-year-old fullback has been training with the
Borussia Moenchengladbach reserve team. Out of contract with the German side, he
says he is ready to resume his career. “Im full into everything now,” he said of
his training. “Im completely symptom-free, no pain, no problems. ... Im able to
do anything, really. Im fully fit.” Stalteri has had arthroscopic surgery on
both hips, the first late last May and the second in early July. He had an
impingement in each hip and surgery was needed to clean out the joint and allow
it to move freely and without pain. “Thats where Ive gained a lot of my mobility
back,” he said. “Im a lot freer down there now than I was before the operation.”
His rehab, while long, has gone according to schedule. His English surgeons
original estimate was nine to 12 months to return to full fitness. The former
Canadian captain spent the first nine days on crutches after the first surgery,
but just two for the second. Months in the gym followed. “I have to say that Im
feeling as good as Ive felt for a long, long time,” he told The Canadian Press
from Germany. “Im sharp, the movements are good. The movements have improved by
the week as Ive got back into training.” The veteran defender is now out of

forward to every day and you want to get to work and do the job. “That something
