I have been making some updates to BUGer and ran into a few problems. When I start the VIrtualBug in release mode I get:
Tue Jan 29 23:13:29 EST 2008] [ERROR] Exception during sending of SRVREG - xid=25528, locale=, url: service:bug://192.168.13.122:8082, serviceType: service:bug, scopeList: [default], attList: []

a few seconds after it starts. It is unable to open the HTTP service port 8082 for some reason. This port isn’t already opened, so I’m not sure why it’s having trouble. I don’t get any SELinux popups or anything.

I looked at the PDE error log and I see:

It seems to have other troubles too: when I hit Escape in the virtual bug I see:

STOPPING file:/home/dave/dev/eclipse/plugins/com.buglabs.dragonfly.bug.kernel_1.0.0.266/kernel/com.buglabs.osgi.http.jar

in the console and the GUI disappears, but the java process is still running. I am also unable to start the Virtual Bug with the debugger. When I try that the "operation in progress" dialog stays up for quite a while and then it says it can’t launch the bug. The PDE error log shows:

Unable to launch VirtualBug

This happens with the built-in java 1.7 that comes with FC8 and with a manual download of 1.6.0._04. This is with Eclipse SDK Version: 3.3.1.1, Build id: M20071023-1652

Any ideas?

Hi finsprings,

Is this an intermittent issue? Also, what do you mean when you say: "When I start the VIrtualBug in release mode"?

Dave,

This is a fresh FC8 install? Does eclipse work normally? Are your file permissions ok on your workspace, launch directory, and Eclipse install? We do not test with Java 1.7 so I cannot say if this may be an issue…

Yeah, it was a fresh install in a VM, then patched up to date via whatever the GUI equivalent of yum is these days. I installed eclipse by hand (rather than using the RPM) after downloading it from eclipse.org. I installed GEF via eclipse rather than RPM and then dragonfly. I also downloaded JDK 1.6.0_04 and have tried running using both it and 1.7.

Eclipse seems to run fine: I can build projects, download from SVN (I have the subclipse plugin installed), etc. I can run the VirtualBug too; it just won’t open the HttpServer port or let me bring it up in debug.

Dave,

Also, any errors or warnings you see relating to SLP are not relevant. Here are some things we could use to get a better idea of your problem. From command line run the following commands and respond back with the output. The last one will generate a lot of output, so it is probably easiest to pipe it to a file.:

java -version
echo $JAVA_HOME
ping buglabs.net
ifconfig -a
eclipse -debug

Hmmm. So I got home tonight, fired up the FC8 VM again, and it all worked….perfectly….
I guess it must have been a bit mixed up the other night, but I don’t use the VM for anything else and it was only paused, not rebooted, so I don’t know why it would have fixed itself.

Ah well, sorry for bugging you guys.
