TORONTO UFC president Dana White stepped in to prevent any further fireworks
between English middleweight Michael (The Count) Bisping and Brian (All
American) Stann at the UFC 152 weigh-in Friday. Carlos Rogers Jersey . The two had literally
butted heads in an intense staredown after a news conference Thursday. Fridays
meeting was also conducted at very close quarters but seemed less vitriolic.
Light-heavyweight champion Jon (Bones) Jones, meanwhile, was welcomed by boos as
he climbed the stage at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, on the site
of the former Maple Leafs Gardens. Jones (16-1) has drawn criticism for failing
to take a UFC 151 fight on short notice with Chael Sonnen, promoting the UFC to
cancel the card slated for Sept. 1 in Las Vegas. A beefed-up Belfort, clutching
a Brazilian flag, came out to cheers before weighing in at 204.2 pounds. “Im the
old lion, hes the young lion,” said the 35-year-old Belfort, who has not fought
at light-heavyweight for five years. “(Saturday) weve got a jungle in the
Octagon.” Jones, who weighed in at 204.6, shook hands with Belfort but did not
look at him as they posed. Belfort (21-9) looked up and smiled at Jones, who at
six foot four holds a four-inch height advantage. “I honestly believe that Vitor
is one of the best on the world. As good as it gets,” said the 25-year-old
Jones. “Im excited to go out there and do my best, do what I always do.” The
boos did not seem to faze Jones, whose reputation took another dent earlier this
year with a drunk driving arrest. Joseph Benavidez (124.4 pounds) and Demetrious
(Mighty Mouse) Johnson (125) both made weight in advance of the UFCs inaugural
flyweight title fight. Neither man smiled as they locked eyes. “Me and Joseph
are going to show you the flyweight division is here to stay in the UFC,” said
Johnson. “I cant wait to give you guys a night to remember,” added Benavidez.
After Bisping weighed in at 185.6 pounds Friday, he headed to the side of the
stage where Stann was waiting for the traditional pose. Stann (185.4) stepped
forward to meet him, promoting White to step forward and separate the two. The
fighters did go head to head briefly, but the encounter ended with Bisping
playfully jabbing Stann in the stomach. The two shook hands and smiled while
jawing at each other. Bisping started the ball rolling after Thursdays news
conference when he jammed his face into Stanns when they posed for photos. Stann
was forced to take a step back but then held his ground. When they eventually
moved apart, the decorated ex-marine paused and stuck his hand out. The two
shook hands and a clearly irritated Stann retired to the side of the stage.
Bantamweight Mitch Gagnon of Sudbury, Ont., weighed in at 135 pounds for his
bout against Walel Watson (135.2) and then looked up at his five-foot-11
opponent. Gagnon stands 5-6. Lightweight T.J. Grant of Cole Harbour, N.S., was
154.6 pounds for his fight with Evan Dunham (155). Welterweight Sean (The
Punisher) Pierson of Pickering, Ont., weighed in at 169.4 pounds for his matchup
with Lance Benoist (170.4). Halifax light-heavyweight Roger (The Hulk) Hollett
was 203.6 pounds for his bout with Matt (The Hammer) Hamill (205.6). Charles
Oliveira, at 146.4 pounds, was slightly over the 146-pound featherweight limit.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Sprint Cup Series points lead. Perrish Cox Jersey . It was a good day for
the Chicago White Sox. Pinch hitter Eduardo Escobar lined an RBI single in the
10th inning and the White Sox beat the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 Sunday.(Sports
Network) – Andrea Bargnani will be gunning for 6,000 career points when the
Toronto Raptors resume a five-game homestand tonight at Air Canada Centre
against the Denver Nuggets. Bargnani needs just 13 points to reach the milestone
and become the fourth player to reach the mark in a Raptors uniform. Get set for
the game with Raptors Game Day on TSN2 at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt. Then catch all
the action from the hardcourt on TSN2 at 7pm et/4pm pt. The game is also
available on TSN Mobile TV. Toronto opened their current homestand with Mondays
117-101 loss versus the Orlando Magic. Gary Forbes led the way for Toronto with
a career-high 21 points, while Linas Kleiza chipped in 18 points and
Jose Calderon handed out 11 assists. “Weve shown that we can compete with
anybody,” said Calderon after the loss. “We just have to get back to the things
we were doing. Its a tough one. We have to learn from this one like we learn
from the good ones.” The Raptors could be without guard DeMar DeRozan again
because of a sore left ankle. DeRozan has missed back-to-back games and is
averaging 16.5 ppg this season. Toronto is just 8-16 up north this season and
will also welcome the Heat, Wizards and Bobcats to town on the homestand.
Calderonn has dished out 10-plus assists in three straight games and is
averaging 9. Justin Smith Womens Jersey. 0 points and 7.9
assists in March. Toronto lost at Denver, 96-81, on Jan. 27 this season and is
winless in the last nine meetings between the teams. The Nuggets have won 14 of
the last 15 matchups in this series, and are unbeaten in four trips to Air
Canada Centre. The playoff-hopeful Nuggets resume their seven- game road trip
tonight against the Raptors. The Nuggets are 1-2 on the trek following Mondays
108-91 win over the Chicago Bulls, as Ty Lawson scored 27 points and
Arron Afflalo had 22. Afflalo returned from a one-game suspension and
Al Harrington scored 17 points off the bench for the Nuggets, who are 12-11 away
from the Rockies this season. Andre Miller had 12 points and 10 assists in the
win. “We were running. Even when they scored, we were trying to run it right
back down their throat,” said Lawson. “Its hard for a team to recover like that.
Theyre still happy they got a bucket and they see us coming back at them.”
Denver sits in the eighth and final postseason spot in the West, just a half-
game ahead of Houston and two games in front of Phoenix. The Nuggets will also
visit the Bobcats, Magic and Hornets on the road swing. ’ ’ ’
