BOSTON —The Boston Bruins refocused their thoughts and effort with two hard practices after a humiliating loss and it paid off with an emotional victory. Whitney Mercilus Jersey . Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron scored shootout goals as the Bruins rallied for a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Coming off a lopsided 6-0 loss to Buffalo, Boston forced overtime when Milan Lucic scored a power-play goal with 67 seconds left in regulation after goalie Tim Thomas was pulled for an extra skater. The Bruins won it with the two shootout goals against Pekka Rinne, who had a solid game. “We had a couple of good days in practice and it was hardworking,” forward Brad Marchand said. “It reminded us again how we have to play.” Daniel Paille and Bergeron also scored for the Bruins, who had lost seven of 12. “It would have been a shame after all that effort,” Boston coach Claude Julien said. Thomas stopped 19 shots in regulation, then turned aside Sergei Kostitsyn and Martin Erat in the shootout. Mike Fisher, Shea Weber and Patric Hornqvist scored for Nashville, which lost for the fourth time in five games. Rinne, who had won 20-of-24 games, made 38 saves through overtime. Predators coach Barry Trotz thought his team looked more worried about how the Bruins would play instead of themselves. “I knew Boston was going to come with a desperate game after last game,” he said. “As I said after the game, I want you to respect your opponent, but dont give them too much respect because then you dont play with the confidence and conviction that you need. ” In the shootout, Seguin lifted a backhand shot over Rinnes right pad. Bergeron then put the puck between the goalies legs for Bostons second goal in three attempts in the tiebreaker. The Bruins loss at Buffalo on Wednesday was their worst defeat since since an 8-2 setback to Toronto in March 2008. Boston had also lost two straight at home. “Its our job to build off this,” Thomas said. “I think we played a much better game and we found a way to win again.” Fishers goal had given Nashville a 3-2 lead with 3:32 left in regulation, but Lucic tied it by scoring off a rebound when he slipped a backhand shot past the diving Rinne. Fisher came charging down the left side, circled the net, and lost the puck briefly before slipping it under Thomas. The Predators, outshot 41-22, went long stretches without getting the puck out of their end. “That was a terrible game for us,” Predators defenceman Ryan Suter said. “(In the) second period we looked like a minor hockey team. “The second half of the second period we started to play a little bit better and we were very fortunate to get one point.” Marchands wrist shot from the left circle hit the top of the crossbar and bounced out of play with 15.2 seconds left for the best chance in overtime. Boston had taken a 2-1 lead on Pailles goal early in the third before Hornqvist tied it at 9:33. Kostitsyn shifted around defenceman Andrew Ference and fired a pass to Hornqvist in front of the net. Rinne also earned an assist. Pailles goal came off a nice backhand feed from Shawn Thornton, who battled for the puck along the boards behind the net. Paille cut in front and slipped a backhand shot past Rinne 2:55 into the period for his first goal in 10 games. Kevin Klein blasted a slapshot off the post a few minutes after Pailles goal. Boston, which dominated play from the middle of the first until intermission, grabbed a 1-0 lead on Bergerons short-handed goal after a solid effort by Marchand. Marchand got to a loose puck at centre, tried to split the defence and lost possession briefly before regaining it and firing a pass to Bergeron, who beat Rinne at 16 minutes for his first goal in seven games. The Bruins held Nashville to one shot over the final 9 1/2 minutes of the opening period, and that drive came from centre ice. Nashville tied it on Webers power-play goal 7:32 into the second. Manager Bobby Valentine said before Saturdays game against the Chicago Cubs that the Red Sox are “going to take the conservative route.” “Hes got some inflammation that were going to calm down and take the time, whatever time it takes to do it,” Valentine said. “We thought in-between starts was enough. He could have gotten an extra day or two, I guess.” Valentine said he didnt think the problem was related to a lat injury that caused Beckett to miss a start in the beginning of May. Beckett also has had a thumb issue all season which Valentine said the club may think about “dealing with” while hes on the DL. Beckett declined to comment on Saturday. Beckett, who is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 starts this year, was scheduled to start Sunday. Valentine announced after Fridays game that left-hander Franklin Moralles (0-1 with a 3. Valentines initial plan was for right-hander Clay Buchholz to pitch on short rest in Becketts place, but Buchholz felt he needed the extra days. He is scheduled to start Tuesday against Miami. Morales will not necessarily have a limit, according to Valentine. “I think he can pitch more than five (innings),” Valentine said. “We have the off day (Monday) and a stacked bullpen. Whatever he gives us should be enough.” The Red Sox recalled right-handed reliever Clayton Mortensen from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Becketts roster spot. Mortensen appeared in three games for the Red Sox in early May, allowing six hits and one run in 9 1-3 innings. He struck out 12 and issued no walks. Becketts injury is just another blow to the last-place Red Sox, who already had 10 players on the disabled list, including outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford. ’ ’ ’
