So after a week of tension and pure stress, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats put together

there were reports and innuendo that all was not good between the coaches and
players , the coaches and coaches and just about everybody that knew anybody in
association with the club. And it may have been all true, partly true or not
true at all. You never know unless youre right there with the team on a daily
basis. My point is this – it doesnt matter if you like your boss or not. Your
job is not to like people – its to perform on the field each and every day.  If
you think that you, me or anyone else is going to go through life without
friction, especially in an employment situation without some conflict, youre
delusional! Does it help if you like the head coach or the staff he hires? Well,
yes and no. Yes in that you look forward to work as opposed to the dread you may
feel if your employer is a priority avoidance. But sometimes if youre too
comfortable, you dont push yourself as hard. Why? Because youre comfortable.
Lets be honest here – the greatest motivator is fear and pain, not love and
appreciation. And when you embrace that fact, it is very empowering . The people
that have accomplished the most for themselves and others are the people willing
to go through the most pain to achieve. And that pain includes other people that
you have to work with that you may not like but must be accountable to. In
football , you may detest your coach, but you have no choice - hes your coach!
There are coaches out there that if I saw them again I would walk by and not
even acknowledge they exist! Others would get a big fat hug even if they didnt
want it. Is it not that way in life too? I have learned many top life lessons
through football and one is that you may have difficulty with others, but you
have to make the effort to get alone. Theres your professional life and your
personal life and for me, I never put them in a blender together. Now dont get
me wrong, there are a lot of people I like and respect at TSN, but there are few
I make an effort to get along with. I am also sure the reverse is true as well
from other perspectives. One of the keys to happiness or contentment is to find
a job you like and grow with it. True, but it is still your job, your work and
your life away from life. Getting along with your coach is great, but its not
necessary. It is much more about can the coach make you a better player and can
you make that coach a better coach through your great play. That is whats
important. I played with a good player in Rodney Harding during my time. Good
player and a tough guy. Respected him but didnt like him until we both left the
game. Rodney used to ride guys pretty hard, young guys especially. His mantra of
expression was, “dont get your feelings involved.”  I must have heard it a
thousand times. And he is right. When it comes to coaches, players and if you
like someone or not, its not what you feel , its what you do. Thanks Rodney,

Jonathan Sanchez for assignment on Tuesday, cutting the struggling starter one
week after Melky Cabrera, the player they traded away to get the pitcher, was
named MVP of the All-Star game. Sanchez was 1-6 with a 7.76 ERA in 12 starts.
The left-hander, who threw a no-hitter against San Diego in 2009, gave up seven
runs in 1 1-3 innings in a loss to Seattle on Monday. He gave up five runs and
two homers in the first inning before retiring a batter. When Sanchez was
pulled, he was booed unmercifully by the Kauffman Stadium crowd. The Royals
announced the move before their game against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday
night. The Royals sent Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants last November for
Sanchez and minor league left-hander Ryan Verdugo in one of the worst trades in
Royals history. “You want them all to work out, but most of the time they dont,
unfortunately,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Tuesday. “Its part of
the business, you move on and you accept it. You continue to look for solutions.
“Theres no need to spend a lot of time rehearsing what went wrong. You certainly
analyze it, but dont beat yourself about it because this game moves on. You cant

Cabrera is hitting .353 and leads the National League with 122 hits and 40
multi-hit games, Sanchez went winless in his final 11 starts with Kansas City.
“We just felt change was necessary at this point and time,” Moore said. “Its

came. It was evident that we needed to deflate the situation and move forward.”
Sanchez allowed 114 baserunners – 65 hits, 44 walks and five hit batters – in 53
1-3 innings. He had not won since April 8, his first start of the season. “We
could see that he just wasnt making progress,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.
“There are a lot of reasons why. You can speculate why on a lot of different
levels. “Its still there with Jonathan. Hes still got the stuff to be
successful. For whatever reason, he just wasnt successful here. It just got to a
point we needed to regroup for us and for him.” Verdugo, who was 6-2 with a 3.58
ERA with Class AAA Omaha, was recalled and started Tuesday night against Seattle
in his big league debut. In other roster moves, the Royals recalled right-hander
Vin Mazzaro for the third time from Omaha, and optioned outfielder
