CHARLOTTE, N. Antonio Gates Womens Jersey .C. —NASCAR fined Kyle Busch US$50,000 on Monday and placed him on probation through the end of the year for wrecking Ron Hornaday under caution at Texas. NASCAR also warned Busch that he will be suspended indefinitely if he is involved in any other action “detrimental to stock car racing or to NASCAR, or is disruptive to the orderly conduct of an event.” Busch was scheduled to run only in the Sprint Cup Series race this weekend at Phoenix, its not clear how many events he had planned to enter in next weeks season finales at Homestead. Busch and Hornaday were racing each other early in Friday nights Truck Series race at Texas when Busch deliberately wrecked Hornaday, a championship contender, under caution. “I lost my cool, no doubt about it,” Busch said after the wreck. NASCAR, which pulled Busch off the track after the wreck with Hornaday, parked Busch for the Saturday and Sunday races at Texas as further punishment. Busch became the first driver since Robby Gordon in 2007 to be suspended from a Cup race. Kevin Harvick was suspended in 2002. Harvick and Gordon were fined $35,000 each after their suspension, and both were placed on probation through the end of the year. They were also warned with the exact same language used in Mondays warning to Busch. Busch could still face additional discipline from Joe Gibbs Racing or sponsor M&Ms. Michael McDowell replaced Busch in Sundays Cup race, and Busch watched it from atop the JGR pit box. “I understand why I was taken out of the car for the rest of the weekend. NASCAR officials had to act, and I accept their punishment and take full responsibility for my actions,” Busch wrote Saturday in an apology letter posted on his website. “As a racecar driver, the hardest thing to do is to sit on the sidelines listening to cars on the track when you know you should be out there competing. For this, I have no one to blame but myself.” Busch was a title contender at the start of the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, and he opened it tied with Harvick as the top seed. But he faltered through the first few races and has not been a threat. Hes had a good deal of drama this season, too. Busch was on probation earlier this season following a post-race, pit-road confrontation at Darlington with Harvick. He was cited for careless and reckless driving, and speeding after driving 128 m.p.h. in a 45-m.p.h. zone. He later lost his North Carolina drivers license for 45 days as part of sentence that included a $1,000 fine, 30 hours of community service and a year of unsupervised probation. He clashed in the garage with rival team owner Richard Childress at Kansas in June and intentionally wrecked Elliott Sadler during the truck race at Bristol. Malcom Floyd Jersey . BOSTON —Red Sox owner John Henry is backing Bobby Valentine in his first season as manager while Boston hovers around the .500 mark. Henry said on Monday that management is not making a managerial change, and he cited numerous injuries as one reason for the teams struggles. In an email to reporters, Henry said that it is “simply wrong” to blame Valentine for the teams troubles, and “we all” share responsibility. He also said there has been no lack of effort by players. The Red Sox have spent most of the season in last place in the AL East and have never been in first or second. A total of 23 players have spent 27 stints on the disabled list, both the highest on the team since 1971. Bostons 23 players on the disabled list are the most in baseball this year. San Diego and Washington are tied for second with 19. “A lot has been written about injuries to key players this year,” Henry wrote. “The impact of that on the Sox this year should not be discounted.” First-year general manager Ben Cherington also voiced support for Valentine. “Bobbys our manager, and were not looking at anyone else,” Cherington said in the Boston dugout before Monday nights game against the Texas Rangers. “Hes as committed to managing the team as he ever has been, and were committed to him and trying to do everything we can to support him and make this work.” The Red Sox began the day with a 54-55 record, 4 1-2 games behind foor the second AL wild card. Henry and Valentine met in the managers office after Saturdays 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins. “He wanted to come in and say it was a tough loss, which it was,” Valentine said Monday, giving no other details of the meeting. Talk about a managers job security “comes with the territory,” Valentine said. “I just come to work and try to do the best that I can do.” In his email, Henry said “We have been nothing but supportive of (Valentine) inside and outside of the clubhouse. Stories that imply otherwise are due to speculation that is not warranted at all by the facts.” He also said managers often are given too much credit and blame for a teams performance. “There is often the thought in organizations, This isnt working so the manager needs to go. But an organization is much more than the field manager,” Henry said. “We all share responsibility for the success and failure of the Boston Red Sox. We are not making a change in manager.” Cherington echoed that, saying more than just the manager is responsible for the mediocre season. “Weve got to perform better as a team, and there are a lot of people here responsible for our performance. I am, the front office is, Bobby is, the coaching staff, the players,” Cherington said. “Collectively, were not performing the way we expect to, and thats on us collectively to figure it out.” ’ ’ ’
