LAS VEGAS —A judge in Las Vegas said shell decide later this week whether to

treatment.” But prosecutor Lisa Luzaich said softening the sentence would be
just another accommodation, similar to when Mayweathers jail surrender date was
postponed for months after sentencing so he could fight Miguel Cotto in May.
“They keep chipping away, chipping away, chipping away,” Luzaich said.
Mayweather pleaded guilty in December to misdemeanour domestic battery and no
contest to two harassment charges that stemmed from an attack on his
ex-girlfriend while two of their children watched. He was sentenced to three
months and entered the jail June 1. Mayweathers jail stay will be capped at 87
days because the judge gave him credit for three days previously served. It
could be reduced by several weeks for good behaviour. In the motion, which was
first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, lawyers say Mayweathers personal
physician, Dr. Robert Voy, visited the jail Friday and was concerned the
35-year-old fighter appeared to have lost muscle tone. Voy estimated the boxer
was consuming fewer than 800 calories a day—a drop from his usual 3,000 or
4,000 calories—and wasnt drinking enough because he isnt allowed bottled
water and doesnt usually drink tap water. Mayweather has been getting a little
more than 30 minutes twice a day in a couple of barren recreation areas in the
administrative segregation unit. His cell, no larger than 7-by-12 feet, has
barely enough floor space for pushups and situps. But prosecutors argued hes
“deconditioning” by choice, and declining much of his food. “He has the ability
to exercise, he just chooses not to,” Luzaich said. “Its jail. Where did he
think he was going? The Four Seasons?” Voy and Wright also pointed to
Mayweathers declining emotional state. “I am concerned about Floyd withdrawing,
developing anger he cannot dissipate through the usual means of dedicated
exercise and training,” Voy wrote in an affidavit. “Boxing has been Mr.
Mayweathers life since he was a young man and we need champions of this type to
continue to their natural retirement and hopefully their contributions to

During a point that lasted more than 30 shots, Nadals feet slipped out from

Worked wonders. Increasingly confounded by his opponent and the swirling wind,
Federer made a very un-Federer-like 46 unforced errors. Djokovic made 17. “I was
struggling to sort of keep the ball in play,” said Federer, who is 30 and nearly
2 1/2 years removed from his most recent major championship. “When youre down
two sets to love against Novak, its not the same match anymore. He goes for
broke and there is no more fear.” Asked to size up Sundays final, Federer didnt
hesitate. “I obviously pick Rafa,” Federer said. “I think hes the overwhelming
favourite.” If Djokovic wins his first French Open final, he will join Don Budge
in 1938, and Rod Laver in 1962 and 1969, as winners of four Grand Slam trophies

Federer twice came close to doing what Djokovic hopes to accomplish: In 2006 and
2007, Federer entered the French Open final needing one win for a fourth
consecutive major title. Federers opponent each time? Nadal, naturally. One
significant difference: Federer is 10-18 against Nadal, including 2-6 in Grand
Slam finals; Djokovic is 14-18 overall against Nadal, but 3-1 in Grand Slam
finals. Djokovic won all six matches he played against Nadal in 2011, then made
it seven straight with their 5-hour, 53-minute epic final at the Australian
Open. Nadal, though, has won their two meetings since, both on clay in May.
“Theres a lot on the line. It always is, when youre playing finals of a Grand
Slam,” Djokovic said. “Considering the matches that we played against each other
in last 15 months, we expect another emotional match, another big challenge for
