MONTREAL - Olympic nominee Barbara Jardin is rounding in to form just in time
for the London Games, winning the womens 400-metre freestyle on Friday at the
Canada Cup. Jacob Tamme Jersey . The Montreal native
finished ahead of Olympic teammates Brittany MacLean and Alexa Komarnycky, both
from Toronto, in second and third respectively. “I was happy with my race
tonight,” said Jardin, who clocked a time of four minutes 9.26 seconds. “The
first half of my race was very strong and going out that fast is a really good
sign for my 200 freestyle.” Jardin says she is not changing her routine too much
as she prepares for the Games. “Im trying not to make it too nerve-wracking but
the excitement is building,” said Jardin. “The Olympic veterans on the team have
done a good job prepping us.” Six other Olympic nominees were in the winners
circle Friday: for the men, Torontos Tobias Oriwol in the 200 backstroke and
Victorias Ryan Cochrane in the 400 freestyle. For the women, Julia Wilkinson of
Stratford, Ont., in the 100 freestyle, Katerine Savard of Pont-Rouge, Que., in
the 100 butterfly, Martha McCabe of Burlington, Ont., in the 50 breaststroke and
Calgarys Erica Morningstar of Calgary in the 200 individual medley. “I had a
very good last 50 metres,” said Savard, who clocked a season best 2:09.16. “I
can feel that Im improving and Im very confident about the Olympics.” Oriwol
also felt she was peaking in time for the London Games. “I wish I had gone a
little faster,” said Oriwol. “The splits were good and I felt good.” Canadas
Paralympic swim team members are also in action this weekend at the Canada Cup.
Winners on Friday included Montreals Valerie GrandMaison in the 100 freestyle,
Summer Mortimer of Ancaster, Ont., in the 100 backstroke and Montreals Benoit

determined when the Rangers see how a ligament in his elbow responds to four

Ibrahimovic has pledged to continue his international career with Sweden,
already looking ahead to the 2014 World Cup after an early exit at the European
Championship. Sweden was eliminated from Euro 2012 after losing to Ukraine and
England in its first two group games, leading some to wonder whether the
30-year-old Ibrahimovic, who has taken breaks from international duty in the
past, would return to the team when World Cup qualifying starts. But “Ibra” said
he has no plans on quitting just yet. “Ill continue with the national team,
absolutely,” he said at a news conference. “Im still motivated and I want a lot
more. This doesnt mean anything in my mind. It just makes me more motivated.” At
a news conference Sunday, the AC Milan forward said “Ill continue with the
national team, absolutely,” adding that “Im still motivated and I want a lot
more.” Despite transfer rumours, Ibrahimovic said he expects to stay in Milan
for the remaining two years of his contract. “I want to get better than I am,
and I want to continue to develop,” he said. Ibrahimovic was seen as the key for
Sweden to make a run at the Euros, but few have blamed him for the teams
failure, as defensive mistakes were largely at fault for a 2-1 loss to Ukraine
and 3-2 defeat against England. Ibrahimovic gave Sweden the lead against the
Ukraiinians, but was held scoreless for the first time in five internationals
against England. Peyton Manning Youth Jersey. “Physically and
mentally Ive felt really good,” Ibrahimovic said. “But what good is that when
you dont win? Id rather win and not play well than to play well and not win.”
Ibrahimovic also stuck up for coach Erik Hamren, whose tactics in his first
major tournament have been questioned. Hamren has tried to transform the Swedish
team from a traditional defensive setup to a free-flowing and possession-based
attacking team. Thats the way Ibrahimovic wants to play as well, and he said it
was important to give Hamren time to develop his ideas. “The way were playing
now, weve never played better,” he said. “Weve traditionally been known for our
defence and not our attack. Now its the other way around.” Sweden still has a
game against France on Tuesday, when Ibrahimovic said the team will be “playing
for our honour.” After that, Ibrahimovic said hell go on vacation before
starting to focus on next season. And when World Cup qualifying does start, he
said the key for Sweden will be to cut out the mistakes that led to the losses
here. “We took the lead in both games and then we lost after some mistakes,” he
said. “Weve conceded five goals in two games, thats never happened before. We
have to keep developing.” ’ ’ ’
