Whenever Mike Sinclair drives by the old house in Burnaby, B. Ryan Fitzpatrick Womens Jersey .C., he cant
help but marvel at the fact its still standing. “It took a beating,” Sinclair
says with a laugh. “I dont know how its still upright. But I guess thats what
you get when you get two really competitive kids around the same age.” Those two
kids were Mike and younger sister Christine, who would leave countless broken
windows and scuffed walls in her wake en route to becoming Canadas finest womens
soccer player. “Oh God, our windows, our next-door neighbours windows, the
windows of our neighbours two houses down,” he said. “Weve broken more
things…” The concrete basement floor of their three-bedroom house provided the
perfect venue for everything from roller-hockey to golf to soccer. “Lights,
windows, doors. . . anything and everything imaginable got broken,” Mike said.
Fast forward a couple of decades and Christine Sinclairs aim has definitely
improved. The 29-year-old is Canadas leading goal-scorer and has the third-most
international goals in womens soccer history, trailing Americans Mia Hamm and
Abby Wambach. Shell lead a squad that will be playing for a medal on sports
grandest stage — the No. 7 Canadians will open the London Olympic Games against
third-ranked Japan on July 25. The Sinclair home was always a hub of sports
activities. Dad Bill coached Mikes soccer team, mom Sandra coached Christines.
Both kids were natural athletes and gifted at several sports. Sinclairs first
love was baseball, and she still wears No. 12 on the soccer pitch in honour of
her favourite baseball player Roberto Alomar. She met the former Blue Jays star
second baseman at a game recently in Toronto. He suggested they exchange
jerseys. When the Sinclairs werent playing organized sports, they were chasing
after each other on the street or playground. Christine was determined to hold
her own against Mike and his friends. “In our neighbourhood, we were always
playing soccer, baseball, football, and she was always right in the middle of
it,” said Mike, the older sibling by three years. “She was a lot smaller, but
she definitely wasnt going to get kicked around. It toughened her up at a young
age.” Canadians saw that toughness splayed across Sinclairs face last summer,
when the striker scored on a beautiful bending free kick against Germany at the
womens World Cup moments after her nose was shattered so badly that goalkeeper
Erin McLeod said it looked “like a zigzag.” Her goal was the lone bright spot at
an otherwise disastrous World Cup that saw the Canadians knocked out after the
preliminary round without a win. But Sinclair said spirits are high heading into
London. The team hired Englishman John Herdman as head coach in the fall and
went on to beat Brazil to win the Pan American Games in October. Four years ago
at the Beijing Olympics, the Canadians finished eighth, losing to eventual
champion United States 2-1 in the quarter-finals. With 12 returnees from that
Olympic team, Sinclair said Canada will field a squad that is wiser from its
experiences in China. “It was the first time our soccer team had qualified, and
none of us had been there before and we were all inexperienced,” Sinclair said.
“The Olympics can be overwhelming, but now that theres a core group of us who
have been there before, we can sort of help the younger players know what to
expect that we didnt know four years ago.” Such as not wasting energy chasing
after superstar athletes. “I remember our team four years ago trying to get
pictures with people during times when normally in camp youd be resting, laying
in bed watching TV. But instead people were out stalking Lionel Messi and things
like that. That needs to change.” The Canadians have worked on rebuilding
confidence since their World Cup debacle, hiring New Zealander Ceri Evans — who
worked with the All Blacks the year they won the rugby World Cup — as a mental
trainer. “Ceris been great, hes worked with most of the players on the team,
just to help the team cope with the pressures of being in a big game, dealing
with the ebbs and flows in the game, if things happen to not be going our way,
how can we snap out of it,” Sinclair said. The team spent the past few months
based in Vancouver, with training scheduled in three-week blocks with a week
away in between to train at home. The Canadians spent several months before the
World Cup in Rome, a grind that had players counting the days until they could
go home. “Players were ready to go home. . . that is not what your mindset
should be at a World Cup or an Olympics,” Sinclair said. Mike was just happy to
see more of his baby sister, whod been living in Rochester, N.Y., and playing
for the Western New York Flash before the Womens Professional Soccer league
folded this year. When Canada defeated Mexico to book its Olympic berth in
Vancouver in January, Mike passed his two-year-old daughter Kaitlyn down to
Sinclair on the pitch of B.C. Place Stadium. He scoffs at people who have asked
him if hes jealous of his sisters success. “Theres no reason why I would be,” he
said. “She has put way more time into the game than anybody I know. Theres a lot
of people who have the talent but dont have the motivation. “And the way she
approaches practice and games, the way shes a leader around other players. . .
Im extremely, extremely proud.” C.J. Spiller Jersey . From a deep bunker in
front of the seventh green, he holed the sand shot for a birdie, and suddenly
the game felt easy. Very easy. That was the start of an amazing finish for
Kaymer, who ran off nine birdies over the last 12 holes to blow past
Fredrik Jacobson and a host of stars on his way to a 9-under 63 and a three-shot
victory at Sheshan International. Mario Williams Womens Jersey . Days after
signing with the Knicks, Kidd crashed his SUV into a telephone pole in the

. The Vancouver Sun reported that Mitchell, an all-star with the Lions in 2011,
signed with the Dolphins after a workout with the team last month. As for
Thigpen, news of his possible signing south of the border was broken by his
Ticats teammate Jeremy Kelley on Twitter. Steve Johnson Womens Jersey . Its never fun
to lose in overtime in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final but the New Jersey Devils
can take some positives from the loss. Ryan Fitzpatrick Jersey . The Tigers, though,
dont just wait around to make moves these days. Granderson and baseballs busiest
team agreed Monday to a US$30.25-million, five-year contract that includes a
club option for 2013 that could make the deal worth up to $43.ROME – Denmark
forward Nicklas Bendtner was finalizing a loan deal from Arsenal to Serie A
champion Juventus and Netherlands midfielder Nigel de Jong left Manchester City
for a three-year deal with AC Milan in the two most notable moves on the final
day of a lacklustre Italian transfer window. Juventus said Friday that Bendtner
was undergoing medical tests, while Milan announced the deal for De Jong and
included him in its squad for Saturdays match at Bologna. Juventus will
reportedly pay Bendtner €1.5 million ($1.88 million) this season, and will have
the option to pay Arsenal €6 million ($7.54 million) after this season to keep
him. “So happy and humble. A dream come true,” Bendtner tweeted. Milan will
reportedly pay City a €3.5 million ($4.4 million) transfer fee for De Jong. With
few major acquisitions, the Italian transfer window has been characterized by
departures of key players like Milans Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, and
Napolis Ezequiel Lavezzi — with all three joining Paris Saint-Germain. Bendtner
scored eight goals while on loan with Sunderland last season. De Jong helped
City to the Premier League title last season and was on the Netherlands team
that finished runner-up to Spain at the 2010 World Cup. While Juve has kept most
of its squad intact after winning Serie A for the first time since before the
2006 match-fixing scandal, Milan offloaded an entire squads worth of players and
has made several acquisitions this week. On Wednesday, Milan signed 22-year-old
Spanish forward Bojan Krkic from Roma, a day after adding 17-year-old French
forward MBaye Niang from Caen. Inter Milan also appears relatively satisfied
with its ssquad, having already added goalkeeper Samir Handanovic from Udinese
to replace the departed Julio Cesar, midfielder Walter Gargano on loan from
Napoli and forwards Antonio Cassano (from Milan) and Rodrigo Palacio (Genoa). Fred Jackson Womens Jersey. But club
President Massimo Moratti is still looking for a backup to forward Diego Milito,
with Lazios Sergio Floccari among the last-minute possibilities. On Friday,
Inter introduced Uruguayan midfielder and fullback Alvaro Pereira, who was
signed from Porto to replace the departed Maicon. “Maicon was a great and
important player and he did a lot for Inter, but Im Alvaro Pereira and Im
another person,” Pereira said. Among other late deals, Napoli, aiming for a
top-three finish to get back into the Champions League, is hoping to sign
midfielder Giandomenico Mesto from Genoa; and forward Marco Borriello could
leave Roma for Genoa if Alberto Gilardino goes to Bologna. Fiorentina has
remodeled its entire squad with 15 new players for coach Vincenzo Montella, with
the final additions being Serbia defender Nenad Tomovic in a €2.5 million ($3.14
million) deal from Lecce and midfielder Giuliano Migliaccio in a free loan from
Palermo. Earlier this week, Fiorentina sharply criticized Juventus for
interfering in its negotiations with Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov,
who now appears set to remain in England. Sydney FC announced Friday that former
Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero had agreed to contract terms with the
A-League club, but the players brother and agent said the deal was not
finalized. Also, troubled forward Adrian Mutu joined Corsican side Ajaccio in a
three-year deal earlier this week from Cesena. ’ ’ ’
