Chris Salamida was spectacular on the mound for the Winnipeg Goldeyes Thursday
afternoon, but his teammates couldnt get him even one run of support. The
Goldeyes were edged 1-0 by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before 4,523 fans at
Newman Outdoor Field. The loss, which was Winnipegs third in four games in Fargo
this week, pushes the Goldeyes six and a half games back of Fargo for first
place in the American Associations North Division and squeezes their lead in the
wild card race to four games over the Kansas City T-Bones. The only run in the
game was scored by the RedHawks in the eighth inning, as Marco Rodriguez singled
with one out and then scored on a Zach Penprase two-out double. Winnipegs bats
struggled in the game, as the team collectively had four hits, including three
from Amos Ramon. The Goldeyes best chance to break Fargos shutout came in the
eighth inning. With one out, Ramon singled and then went to third on a Kyle Day
single. However, Mike Coles grounded into a double play to end the threat. It
was one was three double plays the Goldeyes hit into in the game. Salamida was
charged with the run in the eighth after being relieved by Chris Allen, but
still had a solid outing. Through seven and a third innings, Salamida allowed
just four hits, walked only one and struck out six, but suffered the loss.
Fargos starter Jake Laber earned the win after also going seven and a third
innings, while Tom Boleska pitched the ninth for his 26th save of the season.
