LOS ANGELES —Antawn Jamison is joining up with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash to chase a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. Carson Palmer Womens Jersey . Jamison will sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, a person with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Lakers hadnt announced the move. The 36-year-old forward will sign for the veterans minimum salary, likely bolstering the Lakers woeful bench with scoring and veteran leadership while pursuing the first championship ring in a career largely spent as the best player on bad teams. He wont have that problem with the Lakers, who will have Bryant and newcomer Nash in their backcourt flanked by two elite 7-footers—although their identities will depend on whether Los Angeles apparent efforts to land Dwight Howard are successful. Jamison also will be reunited with coach Mike Brown, who was in charge of the Cavaliers when Jamison was traded to Cleveland during the 2009-10 season. Jamison had several suitors for his services, including his hometown Charlotte Bobcats, the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors, his employer for his first five NBA seasons. For a player who has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in 14 NBA seasons, the Lakers chance to contend apparently was too enticing to Jamison. The Lakers are the fifth NBA team for Jamison, who averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds for an awful Cavs team last season despite shooting a career-low 40.3 per cent. He is averaging an impressive 19.5 points per game in his career, never scoring fewer than 14.8 points per game since his rookie season with Golden State in 1999. Jamison could be a huge upgrade to the Lakers bench, which repeatedly struggled to hold leads last season when the starters sat down. Matt Barnes was the Lakers top-scoring reserve with just 7.8 points per game, and Los Angeles had the NBAs lowest-scoring bench with just 20.5 points per game. Jamison has been a reserve just once in his career, but he was good at it: During his only season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2003-04, he was selected the NBAs Sixth Man of the Year while playing alongside Nash. Metta World Peace is likely to be the Lakers starting small forward, although Brown brought World Peace off the bench early last year. Jamison could back up World Peace and Pau Gasol in a job that would resemble Lamar Odoms responsibilities for the Lakers last championship team in 2010. Jamison generates his steady scoring from an arsenal of herky-jerky, off-balance shots, including an impressive ability to shoot underhanded. Hes also a remarkably consistent 3-point shooter—hitting between 34 and 35 per cent of his attempts in each of the past five seasons—joining a team that needs perimeter scoring. Bryant knows all about Jamisons unique skills: They were Pacific Division rivals early in their careers, and they engaged in one of the most scintillating scoring duels in NBA history on Dec. 6, 2000, in Oakland. Jamison and Bryant scored 51 points apiece—Bryants career high at the time— as Golden State beat the Lakers in overtime. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak hasnt commented on the clubs interest level in Howard, speaking instead about his interest in supplementing his addition of Nash with a handful of veteran bench players. The Lakers will be well over the luxury-tax threshold, forcing Kupchak to seek out new additions willing to put team success ahead of financial rewards. Carson Palmer Jersey . ANAHEIM, Calif. —The first time Mike Trout played against his idol, he was a raw 19-year-old just a few weeks removed from his Los Angeles Angels debut. He couldnt quite believe he was standing on a major league field talking to Derek Jeter. “Its crazy, surreal,” Trout recalled. “Almost like, is this really happening?” A year later, at the ripe old age of 20, Trout was more prepared, more confident, and even more determined to show both the Angels and Jeters Yankees why hes already ready for the big leagues. Trout has been on a tear since Los Angeles promoted him again five weeks ago, batting .303 with five homers, 16 RBIs, 21 runs and eight stolen bases in just 30 games. He has established himself as a speedy leadoff hitter and a phenomenal outfielder who catches just about anything hit his way, producing almost nightly highlights with his bat or glove. The Yankees learned all about it when Trout made a series of stunning catches in left field to go along with three extra-base hits during the Angels series victory over New York this week. “I definitely feel more comfortable up here this time,” Trout said. “Its just knowing more about the pitchers and more about the outfields, how to get to balls out there. Im just trying to keep it going.” As the son of a former minor leaguer from southern New Jersey, Trout realized much of the baseball world was watching when the Angels faced the Yankees. Not only did he seize the stage, but Trout demonstrated why his latest call-up to the Angels is looking more permanent by the day. Count the Yankees among those who are impressed. “Hes been a game-changer, offensively, defensively,” New York manager Joe Girardi said. “The kid has got a lot of talent, a ton. Usually when you see a guy that fast, you dont anticipate him hitting the ball that hard. What hes doing at 20, its really pretty amazing. You think about it, most guys dont hit triples down the left-field line.” Thats exactly what Trout did Tuesday night, showing off the blazing speed that Angels manager Mike Scioscia believes is unparalleled in the AL. With fellow speedster Peter Bourjos patrolling centre field and nine-time Gold Glove winner Torii Hunter in right, its tough to imagine a better defensive outfield than the Angels current trio. “The way we look at it is, no balls can drop in the gap,” Trout said. “Thats a big thing for me and Pete. Were always trying to catch everything.” This time around, Trout is no longer the youngest player in the majors after the promotion of Bryce Harper, Washingtons teenage phenom. He held that distinction last season during two call-ups over nine weeks witth the Angels, batting . Denarius Moore Jersey. 220 and never really finding a groove. The Angels never doubted Trouts ability, however. Once he learned more about the mental approach necessary to maximize those skills, he has been everything Los Angeles expected. “Im not going to compare him to Bryce Harper, but I cant imagine anyone being more skilled at that age,” Angels right-hander Dan Haren said. “He can do it all. Coming up at first, he was a little bit cocky, a confident kid, but he has really changed for the better. He handles his business in the clubhouse, off the field. Hes just a great kid. Hes taking his success in stride. “Hes not walking around acting like a big shot. He was one of the best prospects in the game, and now hes one of the best outfielders in the game. Its going to be fun to watch him.” Trouts talent has been obvious since shortly after the Angels drafted him out of high school late in the first round in 2009. He has regularly topped lists of baseballs top prospects, and the Angels looked for a balance between challenging and overwhelming Trout. “I dont think we would have thought about putting him in the position last year if we didnt think that his makeup and his confidence would allow him to go in there and do what he could do,” Scioscia said. “I think hes used that as a stepping stone to get to where he is this year, and I think theres no doubt his talent is real, and hes going to have a big impact on our organization.” Trout didnt make the Angels roster out of spring training this year, but he hit .403 at Triple-A Salt Lake before the Angels recalled him April 28, releasing veteran Bobby Abreu. Trout played centre field until Vernon Wells injured his thumb in mid-May, allowing Scioscia to play Trout and Bourjos together. Trout said having a regular role “is big. You definitely get more comfortable in the leadoff spot. Ive played my whole life there, in the minors as well. Just keeps my mind straight. Im not worrying where Im going to be in the lineup, where Im going to play.” The Angels went on their longest winning streak in nearly three years after Trout moved over, pulling above .500 Tuesday for the first time since winning on opening day. Trout gets another big test this weekend with the two-time defending AL champion Texas Rangers in town, but his teammates think Trout is ready to lead off, yet still willing to learn. “When youve got room to move like that, that shows you the potential that this kid has,” Hunter said. “Give him five years from now, (when) hell be 25, still super young, hell know how to play this game through and through. Hes going to be awesome.” ’ ’ ’
