PHOENIX —Maybe someday the Arizona Diamondbacks will beat Yovani Gallardo. Game Stevan Ridley Jersey . Their latest
effort wasnt even close. Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart homered and
Gallardo maintained his mastery of Arizona on Friday night in the Milwaukee
Brewers 7-1 victory. Gallardo (3-4) held the Diamondbacks to one run and five
hits through 7 1-3 innings to improve to 6-0 in six career starts against
Arizona. That doesnt count a victory over the Diamondbacks and Ian Kennedy in
last years divisional playoffs. “He just pounds the strike zone,” the
Diamondbacks Justin Upton said. “If you dont get him early hes got power stuff
that puts you away. He is a four-pitch pitcher and commands them all and pounds
the zone.” All four of the pitches were working Friday. “Everything was
working,” Gallardo said. “Timing, rhythm, release point. I know it gets kind of
boring, but thats big for me.” Kennedy (3-5) was the loser Friday night, too.
The Arizona right-hander, a 21-game winner last season, allowed four runs and
seven hits in 5 2-3 innings in his fifth straight loss. Kennedy has lost more
games than he did all last season. “It is a bad, bad run,” he said. “I have
mixed some good ones in there and mixed some bad ones. I am trying to figure out
what it is every single time. I have been working hard in between starts.
Whether it is mechanical or other things I have to keep the same approach and
throw every pitch with conviction.” Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said its
Kennedys location. “Today is just one game,” Roenicke said, “but he didnt have
the same command he had against us last year.” Even with the victory, the
Brewers endured more bad injury news. Shortstop Cesar Izturis was placed on the
15-day disabled list after the game with a pulled left hamstring. Izturis was
hurt legging out a double in the sixth inning. He left for a pinch-runner when
the injury further tightened when he rounded third. The Brewers recalled Edwin
Maysonette from Triple-A Nashville just two days after he was optioned to the
minors when Milwaukee claimed infielder Cody Ransom off waivers from Arizona.
Izturis said he had no idea how long he might be sidelined. “A hamstring, its
hard to tell,” he said. “Right now its really sore.” The Brewers already have
lost shortstop Alex Gonzalez for the season with a torn ACL. The Diamondbacks
lost at home for the 10th time in 12 games and 15th in their last 19.
Jason Kubel homered on his 30th birthday for Arizona. Kennedy retired the first
five batters before Weeks, entering the game hitting .155, hit a 2-1 pitch into
the seats in left-centre field, his fifth homer of the season. The Brewers added
three runs in the fourth. Nyjer Morgan led off with a single, then Brauns
opposite-field shot to right field—his 13th homer—put Milwaukee up 3-0.
Aramis Ramirez followed with a single. After two outs, Travis Ishikawa was hit
by a pitch, then Izturis RBI single to centre made it 4-0. Gallardo didnt allow
a hit until Kennedys single off the glove of second baseman Weeks with one out
in the third. The runner was erased by the Brewers second double play of the
game. Kubels home run onto the porch in right-centre cut the lead to 4-1 in the
fourth. The Brewers tacked on two runs in the seventh when Hart homered off
Josh Collmenter. It could easily have been even more one-sided. Milwaukee left
the bases loaded without scoring in the fifth and sixth Arizona loaded the bases
with one out in the eighth but Ryan Roberts bounced into the Diamondbacks fourth
double play. Kennedy struck out seven, walked two, one intentionally, and hit
two batters. Gallardo struck out five and walked three. Before the game, a
person with knowledge of the situation said the Diamondbacks had agreed to a
five-year, $60 million contract with catcher Miguel Montero. Montero sat out his
third straight game with a mild groin strain. Notes: Kennedy has allowed seven
home runs in his last four starts and has a 6.00 ERA in his five-game losing
streak. ... Arizona manager Kirk Gibson confirmed that RHP Daniel Hudson will
return from the DL to start Sundays series finale. Hudson has been sidelined
since April 21 with a right shoulder impingement. ... After three games in
Arizona, the Brewers play a four-game series against the NL West-leading Dodgers
in Los Angeles. ... In a strong pitching matchup Saturday night, the
Diamondbacks send rookie LHP Wade Miley (5-1, 2.14) against Milwaukee RHP
Zack Greinke (5-1, 2.70). ... Bloomquist went 0 for 3 to end an eight-game
hitting streak. Authentic Rob Gronkowski Jersey . —Wide
receiver Donald Driver is hinting he has a deal in place to return to the Green
Bay Packers. Authentic Stevan Ridley Jersey . For Abel, of
Laval, Que., and Heymans, of St-Lambert , Que., near-perfection was necessary in
the womens synchronized 3-metre competition, as the Canadians managed to edge
Australia to the top of the podium by just 4.8 points. Abel and Heymans finished
with a total of 323. http://www.nflpatriotsgearshop.com/wes-welker-jersey/
. —The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed guard Carl Nicks, an All-Pro last
season, on injured reserve. Black Aaron Hernandez Jersey . Ian Stewart
hit a solo homer and scored the go-ahead run on an error, helping the Cubs beat
the Brewers 8-2 Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep by their division rivals. Dan Connolly Jersey . —Scott Diamonds
second time against the Kansas City Royals did not go nearly as well as the
first.MILWAUKEE—Randy Wolf could tell the Milwaukee Brewers offence was ready
for a big night. He was right. Rickie Weeks capped a five-run sixth inning with
a three-run homer—one of four Brewers homers in the game—and Wolf picked
up his first win of the season, as Milwaukee beat the Houston Astros 9-6 on
Tuesday night. “It was only a matter of time for our offence to kind of click
in,” Wolf said. “It kind of goes down to us playing consistent baseball and
playing the kind of baseball that we can play. Sometimes we have a tendency to
try and do too much.” Corey Hart, Travis Ishikawa and Carlos Gomez also homered
for Milwaukee, which moved back to .500 (9-9) and beat Houston for the 11th
straight time. The Astros have lost eight of 10. Wolf (1-2) struggled over six
innings, giving up four hits and four walks, and striking out four. Bud Norris
(1-1) surrendered seven runs and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings—with Weeks
sending his 102nd and last pitch deep above the Brewers bullpen. Alex Gonzalez
added three hits, including an RBI single in the seventh, for Milwaukee.
John Axford allowed a single in the ninth but picked up his fourth save and 47th
straight dating to last season, tying him with Brad Lidge for the fourth-longest
streak all-time. The streak started a year ago Tuesday against the Astros. “Its
cool,” Axford said. “Its not really my doing. Its the eight innings before that.
I just hope that I can lock it down. Forty-seven saves means 47 wins, thats the
big part.” Chided Wolf: “And what a different looking guy, wasnt he? What a
difference a year makes. He goes from like a Dave Matthews concert to a Grateful
Dead concert.” He added: “It is remarkable. There are only a handful of guys in
all of baseball that can really put a game away like that, where the opposing
team, when you see this guy come in, you kind of see the balloon pop. I saw it
when (Eric) Gagne had his streak, Rob Nen back in the day with the Giants. There
are those guys out there that when they come into the game, you just hope he has
a bad night, because youre probably not going to beat him.” Milwaukee blew it
open with a five-run sixth behind two home runs. Ramirez singled to start the
inning, and Hart followed with a 435-foot homer into the camera box just below
the centre-field scoreboard. George Kottaras walked, and Gonzalez singled. Then,
with two outs, the slumping Weeks homered. Weeks came in hitting .182 with two
homers and just three RBIs. Houstons Jose Altuve homered in the second to make
it 1-0. The Brewers made it 2-1 on Ishikawas first homer of the seasoon in the
fifth. Game Tom Brady Jersey. An RBI single by
Carlos Lee in the sixth made it 2-2 before Milwaukees five-run explosion. “I
felt I made a couple good pitches, a couple bad ones to a ballclub that can hit
the ball out of the yard,” Norris said. “Thats something I need to get better
at.” The Astros closed the gap with three runs in the eighth on an RBI single by
Chris Johnson, a sacrifice fly by Justin Maxwell and an RBI single by
Jed Lowrie, but Francisco Rodriguez, after a wild pitch, got the final out of
the inning, giving way to Axford. Gomez led off the eighth with his homer,
sprinting around the bases after it cleared the fence. “Offensively, we were
really good,” Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. “A lot of guys contributed. It
was nice to see we could put together a few good innings offensively.” Ishikawa
was starting for Mat Gamel, held out of Tuesdays game with a sore shoulder
following a violent home plate collision with Houston catcher Jason Castro on
Monday. On the play, Gamel, attempting to tag up on a short foul out down the
right-field line, barrelled into Castro, who fell back and slammed his head on
the ground but hung onto the ball for the out. The collision may have led up to
some early game fireworks Tuesday. Norris plunked Weeks on the first pitch of
the game, hitting him on the back of the arm above the left elbow. Weeks said a
few words to Norris as he walked slowly to first. At one point, home plate
umpire Rob Drake, who walked with Weeks, looked at Weeks and shrugged his
shoulders. It wasnt clear if the pitch was on purpose, and Roenicke declined to
comment on the potential intent after the game. Said Norris: “It kind of got
away from me. Im going to go out there and stand up for my team. The umpires
handled it professionally. I think Rickie handled it professionally.” Wolf
“battled” and pitched “really good,” Roenicke said. Said Wolf: “I am not there
yet. Its just constant adjustments right now, getting to where I need to be. I
felt the life on my fastball was back today. My location was better on my
fastball. But I felt a few of my offspeed pitches were kind of inconsistent
today.” Notes: Brewers LHP Chris Narveson will have surgery on the torn rotator
cuff in his throwing shoulder and miss the rest of the season, he said Tuesday.
“Ill be ready for next year,” he said before the game. “Its six to nine months.”
. RHP Kameron Loe was reinstated from the bereavement list on Tuesday and
pitched 1 1-3 innings. Loe was placed on the list Saturday after the death of
his grandfather. ’ ’ ’
