RAMA, Ont. Owen Daniels Red Jersey . —Russian Shahbulat (Sha) Shamhalaev made short work of Mike (The Marine) Richman in their featherweight tournament semifinal at Bellator 79 on Friday night. Shamhalaev (10-1) showed quick hands from the start and caught Richman (12-2) with a counter right that crumpled the American 145-pounder to the canvas. He followed with a couple of punches before referee Yves Lavigne stepped in at one minute 45 seconds. Richman took his time regaining his feet and was taken to hospital after the fight. The Russian will meet either Wagnney Fabiano (15-3) or Rad Martinez (13-2) in the tournament final. They fight Nov. 9 at Bellator 80 in Hollywood, Fla. Tournament winners in Bellator earn US$100,000 and a title shot. In a heavyweight semifinal, American Rich (Rare Breed) Hale stopped Thiago (Big Monster) Santos at 3:31 of the first round. The six-foot-four, 238-pound Hale was giving up bulk to the six-foot-three, 265-pound Santos and the big Brazilian charged him with wild throws when the fight started. Hale, moving up from light-heavyweight, weathered the storm and managed to get the Brazilian to the ground after the two collided. The fight ended with Santos on his knees, trying to protect his head as Hale (21-4) punched away from the top. Hale, by virtue of his fourth straight first-round finish, takes on either Alexander Volkov (17-3) or Vinicius (Spartan) Queiroz (6-2) next. Santos (11-2) was coming off a painful victory over Eric Prindle at Bellator 75, a winner by disqualification after talking an axe kick to the groin. He said he lost a tooth and had several others loosened by Hale. The mixed martial arts show, Bellators fourth at Casino Rama, was hit by the earlier withdrawals of Brazilian bantamweight champion Eduardo (Dudu) Dantas and English welterweight Paul (Semtex) Daley. Dantas was recovering from an August KO at the hands of Tyson Nam while Daley had visa issues. The card drew a crowd of 4,200 to the casino north of Toronto but not everyone was thinking of MMA. “We want hockey,” yelled one fan during a slow portion of an undercard bout. The ring announcer reminded the crowd several times that 2,500 gambling machines lay just beyond the doors after the fight card. Earlier, Douglas (The Phenom) Lima dominated American Jacob (Kobe The Stunna) Ortiz before stopping him with a vicious attack at the fence with just 10 seconds remaining in a fight contested at a catchweight of 180 pounds. The American-based Brazilian, who was coming off an April loss to Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren, floored the unorthodox Ortiz with a right early in the fight but couldnt finish him after a length battle on the ground. Ortiz had little offence and when he attacked, Lima punished him with crisp strikes. Lima hurt Ortiz with a knee and was pounding away when the second round ended. Lima (22-5) picked Ortiz apart with his jab in the third, bloodying Ortizs face under his skunk-like two-tone Mohawk hairdo. The fight eventually ended after Lima knocked Ortiz (13-4) back into the fence, following up with a flying knee and a flurry of punches. “The guys got a head made out of bricks,” said Lima, who outstruck Ortiz 89-19 according to Compustrike. Edmonton welterweight Ryan (The Real Deal) Ford won a unanimous (29-28, 30-27, 30-37) decision over iron-chinned American Kyle (Alley Cat) Baker. “In all my 23 fights, hes the toughest guy for sure,” said Ford, who threw everything he could at Baker but couldnt finish him. Ford (19-4) swarmed Baker from the get-go, cutting him before the fight was a minute old with some nasty ground-and-pound. But Baker somehow hung on and survived a pounding at the fence to make it to the second round after the doctor checked him out. Baker (12-7) took another pounding to start the second but unbelievably had Ford in trouble on the ground as the round wore on. The American came out for the third, his face battered and swollen, and came at Ford, who eventually took him down several times. But Baker reversed position to mount Ford and then took his back. Ford muscled his way out to take top position and finished the fight pounding away. According to Compustrike, Ford had a 48-13 edge in significant strikes over the fight. Baker was originally scheduled to fight Daley but was switched to face Ford, who has now won two straight in Bellator. Montreal welterweight Christ (The Beast) Franck won a split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) decision over Marcus (Lelo) Aurelio, a Brazilian fighting out of Vancouver. The bigger Franck (4-0) started the first two rounds strongly but faded in both as Aurelio (6-2) took control. But Franck kept pushing in the third, doing enough to stop Aurelios win streak at six. Montreal lightweight Guillaume (Il Toro) DeLorenzi (10-1) was dominant on the ground as he choked out American Jonny (The King of Late Night) Carson (10-6) at 4:49 of the first round. Unbeaten Russian heavyweight Vitaly Minakov (9-0) stopped Vladimir Starcencov (3-1) of Laval., Que., via TKO at 27 seconds of the second round. Russian lightweight Magomedrasul Khasbulaev (18-5) submitted American Josh Pulsifier (17-8) via rear naked choke at 3:30 of the first round. Josh (The Juggernaut) Appelt (8-2) won by TKO over Ed Carpenter (5-4) at 3:20 of the first round in an all-American heavyweight bout. Wade Smith Jersey . Lee pitched six solid innings only to lose again as the Philadelphia Phillies fell 6-2 to the Colorado Rockies on Friday night to drop their fifth straight and 11th in the past 12 games. Arian Foster Jersey . The flags stitched onto the shirts and caps, and the colours on the leaderboards — American red, European blue — were enough to produce raw emotion, enormous pressure and compelling theatre. http://www.nfltexansfansstore.com/nike-glover-quin-Texans-jersey/ . I had never seen him play outside of highlight packages of singular plays, but on Sunday afternoon I tuned into the Redskins/Giants game from Metlife Stadium, and you cant help but take notice. J.J. Watt Red Jersey .Y. —The New York Knicks are close to getting back some sorely needed scoring punch. Derek Newton Jersey . He was right. Correia pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and Starling Marte hit a two-run triple to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates past the Chicago Cubs 3-0 Monday night in a game that was delayed more than 3 1/2 hours by rain.A month into the 2012 season, the Blue Jays remain amongst the American Leagues top teams. The teams young core has continued to develop early on in the season. The Jays have gotten stellar defence out of Colby Rasmus, highlight reel efforts on both sides from Brett Lawrie and run production out of J.P. Arencibia, despite an uninspiring batting average. But the biggest story that has emerged to shape the Jays future thus far in 2012 has been the big-league debut of 21-year-old Drew Hutchison. While his earned-run average and WHIP leave a lot to be desired, the young righty is yet to get hung with a loss. The Jays will likely have to keep trotting him out every fifth day and hope for him to learn as he goes with Dustin McGowans health remaining a question mark. Heres a look at some of the top names in the Jays system through April. Adeiny Hechavarria (SS, 22) Signed as an International free agent from Cuba (04/13/10). 2012 stats: 27 GP / .283 BA / 1 HR / 19 RBI / .744 OPS (Las Vegas, AAA) Future Outlook: After turning heads in Spring Training, Hechavarria has put up respectable numbers in Vegas. His defence at short remains exemplary and his RBI totals remain above where many might have expected them to be just one year ago. His grand slam on April 30 helped keep the 51s hot, amidst a streak of six wins in seven games. Aaron Sanchez (RHP, 19) Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 3-0, 15 IP, 0.00 ERA, 20K, 0.867 WHIP (Lansing, A) Future Outlook: Theres something very, very special happening in Lansing right now and it involves a trio of ace-potential pitchers 20 years of age or younger. Sanchez has been splitting starts with lefty Justin Nicolino, and in five games the pair have combined for 30 innings without an earned run. Between the pair and fellow Lugnuts hurler Noah Syndergaard, the future is very bright. However, with the trio averaging just three innings per outing, Jays fans will need to be patient as they develop. Still, Sanchezs low-90s fastball and filthy curve have many scouts drooling. And just look at that stat line. Travis dArnaud (C, 23) Acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for Roy Halladay (12/16/09). 2012 stats: 24 AB / .283 BA / 2 HHR / 11 RBI / . Duane Brown Jersey. .776 OPS (Las Vegas, AAA) Future Outlook: While his stat line does not immediately seem impressive, dArnaud has performed admirably in making the jump from double to triple-A ball. In fact, hes just starting to heat up, hitting .381 with a .997 OPS in his last 10 games (as of May 4). Arencibias early-season struggles may have caused some concern from Jays fans, but his RBI totals keep him a valuable cog in the Jays offence, so there will be no rush on the teams part to promote dArnaud. Anthony Gose (CF, 21) Acquired from Houston in exchange for Brett Wallace (07/29/10). 2012 stats: 27 GP / .223 BA / 0 HR / 12 RBI / .609 OPS / 9-12 SB-A (Las Vegas, AAA) Future Outlook: Gose has got to get on base more to be an effective part of the 51s offence and, eventually, the Jays future. Gose has struck out 36 times in just 27 games this season including recording multiple-strikeout games in five of his last 10 contests. Gose is always a threat to steal, but he cant be much of a threat if he keeps his on-base percentage at a mere .323. Jake Marisnick (OF, 20) Selected by Toronto in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 26 GP / .259 BA / 3 HR / 14 RBI / .824 OPS (Dunedin, A+) Future Outlook: Marisnick continues to be one of the true prizes of the Jays system for his five-tool potential. Marisnicks sluggish start to the year took a leap when he torched Lakeland pitching in the teams April 24-27 series, going 8-for-13. Thanks in large part to that outburst, hes hit .302 with a .952 OPS over his last 10 games. Best of the Rest: Justin Nicolino (LHP, 20) – Selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 0-0 / 15.0 IP / 0.00 ERA / 17 K / 0.933 WHIP (Lansing, A) Noah Syndergaard (RHP, 19) – Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 2-0 / 17.2 IP / 1.53 ERA / 25 K / 1.358 WHIP (Lansing, A) A.J. Jimenez (C, 22) – Selected by Toronto in the ninth round of the 2008 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 20 GP / .278 BA / 2 HR / 8 RBI / .731 OPS (New Hampshire, AA) Asher Wojciechowski (RHP, 23) – Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft. 2012 stats: 1-0 / 23.1 IP / 3.09 ERA / 15 K / 1.157 WHIP (Dunedin, A+) ’ ’ ’
