PHOENIX —Ryan Roberts felt his upper body moving ahead of his legs and frantically tried to get them in synch, thinking the entire time: Dont fall. Terrell Suggs Jersey . Arizonas tattooed third baseman managed to stay upright until one final lunge, providing the capping highlight in a high-scoring, what-will-happen-next series. Fighting searing lungs and body control, Roberts hit an inside-the-park home run, one of a record-tying six for the Diamondbacks in their wild 14-10 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. “I was so gassed,” Roberts said after the eighth inside-the-park homer in franchise history. “It doesnt seem like that far around the bases, but it is when youre running that hard. Im just glad I didnt fall over.” Arizona opened the three-game series with a 7-1 win behind Aaron Hills cycle, the fifth in franchise history. Seattle outlasted the Diamondbacks in the middle game, winning 12-9 in 10 innings. The finale featured plenty of momentum swings, hard-hit balls and one mad dash around the bases by Roberts. Miguel Montero hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs in all. Justin Upton had a three-run shot to end an 82 at-bat homerless drought. Hill became the first Arizona player to double and homer in three straight games. Jason Kubel and John McDonald each hit a solo shot, and Roberts had his first inside-the-parker to give the Diamondbacks six homers in a game for the third time in franchise history. Arizona finished with 10 extra-base hits, its most since 2009 against Colorado, collected 16 hits overall and batted around in the fifth inning while chasing Jason Vargas (7-7). The Diamondbacks scored 30 runs in three games against the Mariners, their most since scoring 32 against Milwaukee from Sept. 25-27, 2001. “We didnt quit and kept putting runs in the board,” Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. “Rynos inside the parker was exciting, Miggy had a great day. J-Up got back on track. It was a pretty good team effort.” The Mariners couldnt keep up. They scored five runs against Trevor Cahill (6-5) in the third inning, hit double digits in runs for the second straight game and had 14 hits. It wasnt enough to overcome Arizonas barrage of homers, including five against Vargas to match a team record. Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer, Kyle Seager had a two-run shot and Casper Wells drove in two runs for Seattle. “They were really squaring up the ball against us,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. A short turnaround from Tuesdays late game didnt hamper the lineups one bit in the series finale. Hill got it started with a solo homer off Vargas in the first inning to extend his home hitting streak to 13 games, and Kubel followed with a homer of his own. Hill added a double in the third inning, becoming the first player to homer and double in three straight games since Tampa Bays Evan Longoria from June 25-27, 2008, and first in the NL since Aramis Ramirez accomplished the feat with the Cubs from July 17-19, 2005. A day after scoring six runs in the fifth inning, the Mariners put up another big number in the third against Cahill. John Jaso had a run-scoring double to the corner in right, Wells followed with a two-run single and Seager made it 5-2 with a drive to right. Vargas couldnt hold the lead, though, yielding a two-run homer to Montero and a solo shot to McDonald in the fourth that tied it at 5. Upton broke the tie with a never-a-doubt drive— estimated at 457 feet—to the second deck in left-centre in the fifth inning, his first since May 23. Roberts added a run-scoring single off Shawn Kelley and McDonald followed with a run-scoring double to make it 10-5. Vargas allowed 10 runs and nine hits in 4 1-3 innings, the fourth straight start hes given up at least four earned runs. “They swung the bats well,” said Vargas, who joined Jamie Moyer in 1988 and 2006 as the only Seattle pitchers to allow five homers in a game. “You cant take anything away from them, but I gave them some opportunities. They didnt miss any of them.” The Diamondbacks still werent done. Montero hit a two-run single in the sixth off Lucas Luetge and Roberts brought the crowd to his feet, sliding headfirst to beat the throw home for his first circle-the-bases homer. Roberts fifth of the season put Arizona up 14-6 and led to a curtain call and lots of heavy breathing on the bench. “It took me a couple of innings to catch my breath and realize how special it was,” he said. The offensive outpouring allowed Cahill to win his fourth straight start despite not having his best stuff. The right-hander allowed six runs and nine hits in six innings after giving up two earned runs over 23 1-3 innings in his previous three games. “Its good to get a win any way you can get it,” Cahill said. HOUSTON —The Houston Texans look like the new bullies in the AFC —at least for now. Matt Schaub threw two touchdown passes, Arian Foster ran for two scores and the Texans dominated a showdown of the conferences top two teams, routing the Baltimore Ravens 43-13 on Sunday. Johnathan Joseph returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown and the Texans (6-1) finally beat Baltimore, whod won all six previous meetings and eliminated them from last years playoffs. Houston heads into its open date with a much better outlook after getting embarrassed by Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay last week. Schaub completed 23 of 37 passes for 256 yards and the Texans set a franchise record for points in a game and finished with 420 yards. “We were really into what we were doing,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said, “and we were there all day long, so it was a good team effort.” The Ravens (5-2), meanwhile, missed star linebacker Ray Lewis, who was placed on injured reserve this week with a torn triceps. Terrell Suggs, last years defensive player of the year, saw his first action since undergoing surgery on his right Achilles tendon last May. Suggs sacked Schaub in the first quarter and finished with three solo tackles. Otherwise, Baltimores defence seemed overmatched without Lewis and cornerback Lardarius Webb, who were placed on injured reserve this week. Safety Ed Reed, who acknowledged this week that hes been playing with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, left in the fourth quarter with a chest injury. Reed said he felt fine after the game. The Ravens gave up their most points since a 44-20 loss to Indianapolis in 2007. “Its not the end of the world,” Suggs said, “but its not something were going to take lightly, either.” Baltimores offence didnt look any better. Flacco was off-target and under pressure most of the game, Ray Rice was held to 42 yards rushing and no Baltimore receiver had a reception longer than 15 yards. Baltimore came into the game with a league-high 34 offensive plays covering at least 20 yards. “We can still play great defence,” Kubiak said, “and expect to do that the rest of the year.” The Ravens led 3-0, then started unraveling after Donnie Jones punt pinned them at their own 3-yard line late in the first quarter. Connor Barwin charged in from Flaccos blind side and tackled him in the end zone for a safety and his first sack of the year. “They played well. We ddidnt,” Flacco said. Ray Rice Jersey. “They played fast and we just werent able to stand up to it today and give it a good fight.” The play seemed to ignite Houstons offence and Schaub, who needed about three series to find the weak spots in Baltimores injury-ravaged defence. He found Johnson for a 12-yard gain, then connected with Kevin Walter for a 25-yard touchdown and a 9-3 lead. J.J. Watt really got Houston rolling when he swatted a Flacco pass, his ninth defenced pass of the season. Joseph caught it and sprinted to the end zone, showing no ill effects from the groin injury that forced him to miss practice time last week. The Texans moved in big chunks on their next offensive series, as the Ravens defence steadily deteriorated. Tight end Garrett Graham made an acrobatic 20-yard catch, Foster weaved 14 yards to the Baltimore 1 and tight end Owen Daniels made a diving catch in the end zone for a 22-3 lead. By then, the Ravens were losing their cool. Safety Christian Thompson took a swing at Houstons Justin Forsett and was called for a personal foul, and Flacco threw incomplete on his next three throws. Shayne Graham tacked on field goals of 33 and 29 yards to put Houston up 29-3, its largest halftime lead of the season. Schaub completed 19 of 32 passes—12 in a row in one stretch—in the first half. Flacco, meanwhile, went 7 for 20 and was sacked twice to go along with two interceptions. Baltimore got help from a pass interference call on Joseph early in the third quarter, and Flacco found Tanden Doss for a 15-yard touchdown. Houston turned its next series over to its workhorse running back to seep time off the clock. Foster carried seven times for 18 yards on the 7 1/2-minute drive and plowed into the end zone with 2:56 left in the third quarter. He came into the game leading the NFL in carries (149). Notes: Texans WR Andre Johnson finished with a season-high nine catches for 86 yards. He set a franchise record by appearing in his 129th career game for the team. ... Watt was held to no sacks for the first time this season. ... The announced attendance was 71,708, the largest regular-season crowd in Texans history. ... Baltimore rookie RT Kelechi Osemele was carted off the field in the second quarter with a brace on his right leg. The team said X-rays on his ankle came back negative and he returned to the game in the second half. ... Tucker has four field goals of at least 50 yards this season, a Ravens record. ’ ’ ’
