ARLINGTON, Texas—All by himself, Ian Kinsler showed why the Texas Rangers can be so dangerous. Dwight Freeney Jersey . Kinsler got four hits, scored three runs and stole two bases Thursday night, sending the AL West leaders past the Oakland Athletics 7-6 for their 11th win in 13 games. Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre and David Murphy each drove in two runs for Texas in a game that lasted 3 hours, 54 minutes, the Rangers longest nine-inning game of the season. “We can generate runs in a lot of different ways,” Kinsler said. “Lately weve been hitting the ball into the gap and driving the ball out of the ballpark. Tonight we really didnt have that but we were able to generate runs in another way, stealing bases and taking the extra base whenever we could, and we were able to push a bunch of runs across.” Texas tied a season high with four steals. The Rangers, who are third in the American League in home runs (98), had only two extra-base hits and walked six times. Kinsler got things started with a leadoff double in the first inning. “Some people call it small ball. I call it winning baseball,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Thats just doing what the game asks you to do. Were starting to get back to that. Were starting to get free on the basepaths, running, and doing some things. Its winning baseball. Thats what were doing.” Scott Feldman (2-6), who gave up eight earned runs in 1 2-3 innings when he last faced Oakland on June 4, won despite allowing nine hits in five innings. Feldman had lost four straight decisions against the As. “I was telling myself bend but dont break,” Feldman said. “I had already given up the four runs, so I had to try to limit the damage and keep them there and get our guys back in there swinging the bats.” Joe Nathan earned his 18th save of the year. Tyson Ross (2-8) was tagged for five runs and eight hits in four innings. “Their lineup, one through nine, its one of the best in the big leagues, if not the best. And any time you put guys on base and give them a free pass, youre just asking for trouble,” Oakland catcher Derek Norris said. “Unfortunately, we gave up a few too many walks tonight and they capitalized on it.” Josh Reddick hit his 18th home run for Oakland. Norris and Cliff Pennington, the eighth- and ninth-place hitters in the As lineup, connected for consecutive homers in the third. The Rangers drew four walks and hit three singles during a four-run fifth that put them ahead 6-4. Leonys Martin drew a leadoff walk and scored on a single by Elvis Andrus. Reliever Jim Miller walked Josh Hamilton to load the bases, then walked Adrian Beltre to make it 4-all. With two outs, David Murphy hit a two-run single. In the sixth, Andrus walked, stole second and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Beltre for a 7-4 lead. Oakland came back in the seventh with an RBI single by Yoenis Cespedes and a sacrifice fly by Seth Smith. Cespedes finished with three hits and drove in two runs. Norris homer was his second in the majors. Pennington was 2 for 28 before he homered. NOTES: Rangers starter Derek Holland, on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow fatigue, said he felt good a day after his first rehabilitation start in Triple-A Round Rock. Holland threw 38 pitches in three innings. The Rangers plan two more rehab starts for him, Washington said. ... Washington still has not determined whether his starting pitcher Saturday against Oakland will be rookie Justin Grimm or Martin Perez, who made his MLB debut with a two-out relief stint Wednesday against Detroit. ... After Oakland beat Seattle 2-1 Wednesday with two solo home runs, the As got their first three runs on solo homers. Andrew Luck Jersey . Five weeks into the NFL season, the Giants have to be considered the team to beat. I was very skeptical heading into this past weekends contest, as Plaxico Burress was not playing. Burress was suspended by Giants head coach Tom Coughlin for missing a team meeting two weeks ago. I was curious to see if his absence would negatively impact the Giants offense. As I was watching the Giants dismantle the Seahawks 44-6, I couldnt believe how many different players were getting involved offensively in the Giants game plan! Eight different players caught passes for the Giants, and the biggest surprise may have been 4th year wide receiver Domenik Hixon. Coming into Saturdays game, Hixon had only 94 career receiving yards. Hixon would have a career day Sunday, totaling 102 yards and a TD on four receptions – and he played less than a half (Hixon left the game in the second quarter with an injury). Wide receiver Sinorice Moss would even contribute his first two TD receptions of his career in Burresss absence. In fact, the Giants totaled 342 yards of total offense in the first half alone, the most yards totaled by any team in the first half of any game this year. Give offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride a lot of credit, as no matter what he dialed up in the game, it seemed to work. Gilbride was my quarterback coach during my fourth year with the Giants, and he always had such a good feel for what his quarterback was good at executing. Gilbride is so good at game planning because he puts his playmakers in positions to make plays. Without Plaxico Burress in the game plan, Gilbride was able to find production from multiple players, maximizing each mans individual talent. The Giants, for example, were able to continuously gash the Seahawks defense on the ground, as Brandon Jacobs rumbled for 136 yards and two TDs. All this helped Eli Manning had his most efficient performance of the season, going 19 of 25 for 267 yards and 2 TDs. Coughlin must feel much better knowing that if Burress is ever unable to play, there are several other weapons that the Giants can take advantage of again. The Redskins are for Real At 4-1 the Washington Redskins look to be a real contender in the NFC East. I am simply amazed at how well Jason Campbell has been able to play so far this season. Through five games now, Campbell has yet to throw an interception! In fact, the Redskins have only turned the football over one time this year, and that was a fumbled punt return – the offense remains mistake-free. Clinton Portis has been magnificent running the football, as the Redskins are currently the fifth best running team in the NFL (146.6 yards/game). Defensively, the Redskins have been stout, consistently rising to the occasion week in and out. After giving up nine first downs on the Eagles first two drives, the Redskins D allowed only five more the rest of the game! The Redskins have been difficult to run against this year, giving up only 85.4 yards a game. They gave up only 44 yards on the ground to Dallas in their 26-24-road victory two weeks ago. The bottom line is that the Washington Redskins are a completely different team than what we saw in Week 1, when they looked dismal in a 16-7 loss in New York against the Giants. Head coach Jim Zorn has been able to open up the offensive playbook, as evidenced by Antwan Randel-Els nifty 18-yard touchdown pass to Chris Cooley this past weekend against the Eagles. The Redskins have been playing with a lot more swagger ever since that huge road win in Dallas two weeks ago, and appear as though they believe they should win each and every week. Weve seen the maturation at quarterback in Jaason Campbell, but we have also witnessed the early growth of Jim Zorn as a head coach.dddddddddddd. There is no debate right now that the NFC East is the marquee division in the NFL, and it appears that the Washington Redskins have as good a chance to win it as anyone. Razed in Arizona The Buffalo Bills took one on the chin this past weekend, getting blasted 41-17 by the Arizona Cardinals. Following the defeat, a lot of people are going to start wondering whether or not the Bills are for real. After starting the season 4-0, the Bills were completely overmatched on the road, as Kurt Warner dissected the Buffalo defense to the tune of 250 yards and two TDs. I still firmly believe that the Bills are a very good football team; I simply think this was a bad game for them. This was just one of those games where nothing went right for the Bills. For starters, they were playing a good Arizona team that has won five straight games at home. To make matters worse, starting quarterback Trent Edwards suffered a concussion on the third play of the game, and was forced to leave. The Cardinals kept the Bills on the field for almost 35 minutes of game time, as they were able to sustain long scoring drives of 12, 13 and 14 plays. A lot of people have come up to me and asked if the Bills perhaps were exposed in this game. I dont think they were, since it will be very difficult for opposing teams to rely on so many long scoring drives to beat the Bills week in and week out. Converting third downs is not an easy thing to do in the NFL, and the Cardinals were unbelievable Sunday, converting nine out of 15. The Cardinals were simply clicking on all cylinders offensively against the Bills, and I really believe that the blue print will be difficult for other teams to duplicate. The Bills fortunately have a bye week now, and it couldnt come at a better time. The Bills need to go back to the drawing board and get ready for San Diego at home on October 19. This break will also give Trent Edwards an opportunity to recover from the concussion. The NFL is a difficult league to go through unscathed, and the best teams are the ones that can bounce back after suffering bad losses. Dont kick it to Reggie! Do you think anybody will punt to Reggie Bush anymore this season? In Monday nights 30-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Reggie Bush was a one-man show as he tied an NFL record by returning two punts for touchdowns. Whats even more amazing is that Bush returned both punts for TDs in the second half! Bush was able to demonstrate his game-changing speed on both returns, going 71 yards in third quarter and then 64 yards in the fourth. It is amazing what type of impact Bush has been able to have early in his career in New Orleans. He gets lots of criticism because he is not a “pure running back”. Its true that Bush has yet to find success as a feature back, like most prototype NFL backs that carry the football between 20-25 times a game. Instead, head coach Sean Payton has been able to develop his game plans around Bush, always finding ways for him to get touches in other ways. I believe Reggie Bush is the best running back in the NFL at catching the football, and you will generally see him lining up all over the field in the Saints offense in order to get involved in the passing game. Bush also makes an impact in games in the return phase as well, as was evidenced Monday night. He not only gives the Saints an advantage in field possession because of his return skills, but also serves as an emotional spark to his team with his electrifying returns. Opposing coaches now need to make a big decision heading into games versus the Saints: do we kick to Reggie Bush? I think the answer is quite simple: heck no. ’ ’ ’
