KOBE, Japan—Canada is facing a crucial game against a tough North Korean side next week at the womens under-20 World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Norway on Thursday. Eric Weddle Jersey . Ada Hegerberg scored just after the break and her sister Andrine scored the winner 11 minutes from time. Both teams are tied with three points after two games in the group stage. North Korea leads Group C with six points following a 9-0 drubbing of Argentina. “It was a disappointing result,” said Canadian coach Andrew Olivieri. “There were a lot of promising performances, but winning is part of the player development at this level.” Canada will close out the group stage Monday against North Korea. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals. If two or more teams finish tied on points, goal differential will determine who goes through. Jenna Richardson scored for Canada in the 44th minute. Canada created numerous chances in the first half, but couldnt quite hit the target as balls either went wide or into the arms of Norwegian goalkeeper Nora Gjoen. Nearly midway through the first half, Norway thought it had its chance after referee Qin Liang called a penalty on Canada. Ada Hegerberg took the kick, but her shot to the left was stopped by Canadian goalkeeper Sabrina DAngelo. “I think we certainly had the better of the play and chances in the first half,” said Olivieri. “Other than the penalty chance (for Norway), we could have gone up by three goals after 45 minutes—so the first half was positive in that sense.” In the second half, the game opened up and Norway got the equalizer in the 52nd minute. Andrine Hegerberg blasted a shot past DAngelo 15 minutes later for the lead. “In the second half, we knew we couldnt sit back, we had to keep going forward,” said Olivieri. “The game opened up and started going back and forth, perhaps a little more than we would have liked.” Kim Un Hwa scored five goals to lead North Korea to a rout of Argentina, which gave up six goals in its first game against Canada. Kim Su Gyong had a hat trick and Yun Hyon Hi scored the other goal for the 2006 champions. Meanwhile, in Hiroshima, substitute Lina Magull scored an injury-time winner as defending champion Germany beat Ghana 1-0. Magull, who came on in the 83rd minute, took a perfect pass from Dzsenifer Marozsan and beat Ghana goalkeeper Patricia Mantey with an angled left-footed shot in the first minute of injury time as Germany improved to six points in Group D. “It was very exciting to get a goal so late in the match like that,” Germany coach Maren Meinert said. “The players worked very hard and were rewarded for their work. Ghana was a tough opponent and we had to think about different formations.” The United States was held to a 1-1 draw by China in Group Ds second game of the day, a result that ensured Germany became the first team to advance to the quarter-finals. Shen Lili scored with a superbly struck drive from the top of the area in the 19th minute and Maya Hayes equalized for the Americans with her fourth goal of the tournament in the 36th. The U.S. has four points and must avoid defeat in its final group match against Germany to definitely advance. “I thought we played well in stretches,” U.S. coach Steve Swanson said. “Its too bad we gave up that early goal which was Chinas only real chance. This was not the result we wanted but I thought we played well, now we have to just turn our thoughts to the next game.” China, which has one point and still has a chance of advancing, plays Ghana in its last game of the group stage. Donald Butler Jersey . —Alexandre Picard was at the right place at the right time, which has been his story throughout the playoffs. Ryan Mathews Jersey . The move, announced Tuesday, is retroactive to June 15, a day after Hellickson gave up nine hits— including three homers—and eight runs in just 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets. http://www.sandiegochargersroom.com/philip-rivers-jerseys . Watch the game live on TSN tonight at 7pm et/4pm pt. The younger and far more athletic 76ers escaped Beantown with a split and will now have an opportunity to take control of their Eastern Conference semifinals series with their more ballyhooed rivals in the pivotal Game 3 at Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday. Philip Rivers Womens Jersey . The truth is most, if not all teams, give the players the entire week off. No football, no pressure, no demands, no exceptions. This is the way it works in both in the NFL and CFL, so it is not a product of the Canadian style at all. Just about every sport experiences a bye week or a similar break in one form or another at some time during a season. Eddie Royal Jersey .ca is providing reports for all seven Canadian teams going into the big event on June 22.FLORHAM PARK, N.J. —Tim Tebow laughed a few times, smiled steadily and stayed polite and composed. If being surrounded by dozens of cameras and scores of media people made him nervous, the New York Jets new backup quarterback didnt show it. He was cool and calm—exactly how he looked during those hair-raising comebacks last season with the Denver Broncos. His message: Im here to help, not to create another Jets controversy. “Its an honour for all of you to show up to hear me say a few words,” a grinning Tebow told a pack of more than 200 reporters. Asked what he thought about the media crush, he said: “I really dont think it will be much of a distraction because, honestly, I will try not to pay too much attention to it.” Good thing, because it will surely be around 24/7. Monday was only the beginning. Even though both he and Mark Sanchez, the starting quarterback, dont want more drama. Tebow spoke for more than 30 minutes at a news conference held in the teams field house because the media turnout was so massive it couldnt be accommodated in the normal press room. It was hardly a run-of-the-mill meet-and-greet, with the star of the show hardly a part-time player. Cameras flashed, capturing every Tebow step, as he strolled onto the field and made his way to the podium for his big New York close-up. He appeared polished and unfazed handling a barrage of 31 questions, most of his answers measured and upbeat as he deftly handled the local media. Tebow, who used the word “excited” more than 40 times, refused to stir the volatile mix that is the Jets. He went out of his way to say he believes he and Sanchez can co-exist despite all the skeptics. And there are plenty. “I think the exciting thing is me and Mark have a great relationship,” Tebow said. “We have had a great relationship for the last three years, I think. Weve been friends. We text back and forth. We talked already and were going to have a great working relationship. I think well have a lot of fun together.” The two do have a bit of shared history. Sanchez hosted Tebow on his recruiting trip to Southern California. Sanchez didnt watch the big news conference because he was working out, but he also isnt worried that Tebow could take his job at some point. “Were adding another player and were not replacing anybody,” Sanchez said. “I mean, hes here to help us and Im confident in my abilities. I know the team feels the same way about me. They have belief in me. “Im not worried about losing my spot.” Now, its up to the Jets to make sure it all works. “Theres a lot of pros here,” Tebow said, “and not a lot of cons.” Thats what the Jets think, too. After all, the quarterback has been marketing gold since they acquired him from Denver last Wednesday. His green-and-white No. 15 jerseys are flying off the racks and his arrival has put the Jets on tabloid covers for days. Never mind that their stadium mates, the Giants, just won their second Super Bowl in four years. Or that Tebow, despite leading the Broncos to the AFC West title last season, completed fewer than half his passes and Denver wound up getting routed by the New England Patriots in the playoffs, 45-10. For anyone who wondered why such a circus-sized event for a backup quarterback, Tebow had an answer: just following orders. “I have bosses, too, and they wanted me to stand up here and talk to you all,” he explained, “so I can blame it on them because they made me do it.” Tebow electrified the NFL last year by taking a 1-4 Denver team on an incredible run—seven wins in eight games, including three in overtime and another two won in the waning moments of regulation. Suddenly, the league was gripped by Tebowmania. Never mind the bad passing mechanics and Tebows tendency to tuck the ball and run. The Jets are hoping he has more surprises left in him —in whatever role he serves. “Hopeefully, by me being here, we can be a little bit better,” Tebow said, decked out in a grey suit and a light green tie. Dan Fouts Jersey. “I think I can add something, and thats my hope and prayer.” Coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum have insisted for days that Sanchez is the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback. The two, along with owner Woody Johnson, missed Tebows news conference because they were attending league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. No teammates were there, either, although Tebow said he has spoken with several of them already. “Ultimately, Im just going to be myself and just have fun with it,” he said. And, Sanchez thinks there can be plenty of happy moments—with the two of them being key parts of the offence. “Im a team guy and Ill do whatever it takes to win,” Sanchez said. “If changing a few things up a couple of times a game is what we need to do, Im totally on board.” Ryan suggested Sunday that Tebow could be used at a position other than quarterback. He kept referring to Tebow as a “football player,” his ability not limited to QB. “I dont see Tim just holding a clipboard,” Ryan said. “Hes going to be playing for us. There is no doubt.” Tebow said that, first and foremost, hes a quarterback and thats the position he wants to play. But “however I can help the team, I am open to it.” Tebow also briefly spoke about his strong Christian beliefs, something that has made him much more than just a football star. He said his faith is the most important thing to him, but he didnt want that to be the focus Monday. The quarterback did think its funny so much has been made of “Tebowing” in the last year. “Im pretty sure Im not the first athlete who has gotten on a knee and prayed, but its known as Tebowing,” he said. “Im not sure why. It probably has a little bit to do with the hype.” And theres been plenty of that, going back to his Heisman-winning days at the University of Florida. Just last month, Tebow was declared Denvers starting quarterback going into this summer. Not long afterward, four-time MVP Peyton Manning came to town and Tebow was told he could be traded. Manning was introduced as the Broncos newest quarterback last Tuesday, and about 24 hours later, Tebow was headed to New York. And then, he wasnt. A snag in the deal held things up between the Jets and Broncos, the delay centred on a salary advance due Tebow. Jacksonville, once considered one of the favourites to land their hometown star, jumped back in the hunt. But eight hours later, the Jets finally completed the trade, agreeing to pay half of the $5 million Denver owed Tebow. There was yet one more delay before the trade became official; a technicality required Tebow to sign a rewritten contract that kept him on the Broncos salary cap until Saturday afternoon. All that is history now. “This is where I want to be,” he said, adding that he preferred the Jets over the Jaguars because he was already familiar with New Yorks coaches. He and Ryan share the same agent, and they chatted at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis last month. “Ive always watched him,” Tebow said. “I got to see Hard Knocks, see how he coached, and that was fun. From our conversations that weve had the last few days, I think hes just excited that Im here. I think its a day-by-day process to see what happens and how well, you know, the wildcat is working.” The Jets intend to make things work with Sanchez, too. After all, less than two weeks ago he was given a contract extension that included $20.5 million guaranteed. Doesnt bother Tebow. “Whatever my role is, however I can expand that role, Im going to try to do that,” he said. “Every day in practice, Im going to go out there and compete and try to get better as a quarterback, try to figure out any way possible to help this team any way that I can.” ’ ’ ’
