CINCINNATI, Ohio—The purplish bruises on the back of Carson Palmers passing shoulder and the nasty red scrape down the middle of his back vividly summed up his horrid homecoming. Andrew Luck Youth Jersey . The Bengals made it painful for Palmer all-around. And the rest of the Raiders, too. Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes against Oaklands dreadful defence, and the Cincinnati Bengals showed their former franchise quarterback that theyve moved on without him, beating the Raiders 34-10 on Sunday. “Not a lot went right, from start to finish,” Palmer said. Basically, the Bengals (6-5) did anything they wanted while pulling ahead 24-0 in the first half. They also got the better of a nasty second half that included an on-field fight and three ejections. BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 129 yards and a touchdown against the NFLs most generous defence. He had runs of 48 and 39 yards—the longest of his career— to set up scores. Oakland (3-8) has lost a season-high four straight games, giving up 169 points in the process. “Im just really tired of losing,” safety Mike Mitchell said. “Its going from anger to sadness to … I dont know.” Oaklands frustration boiled over in the fourth quarter. A brawl broke out after a play was whistled dead because of a penalty, and Oaklands Tommy Kelly and Lamarr Houston ended up on top of Cincinnatis Andrew Whitworth in the middle of a big scrum of players. All three were ejected. “They were probably looking for a fight because they werent doing much on the field,” Whitworth said. Coach Dennis Allen liked the way his team regrouped after the terrible first half, but didnt condone the brawl. “I think its OK to play with anger,” Allen said. “But weve got to play with poise and composure. We lost our poise a little bit.” Palmer hadnt been back to Cincinnati since the Bengals traded him in the middle of last season, finally satisfying his demand for a trade. He went 19 of 34 for 146 yards with four sacks and an interception. He was booed by the 56,503 fans —the smallest crowd of the season at Paul Brown Stadium—when he went out for the coin toss. He got a hug from former teammate Rey Maualuga and finally met Dalton, who was drafted in the second round last year to replace him. A sign in the upper deck read: “Winners Never Quit,” a reference to Palmers insistence he would never play for the Bengals again. “You obviously hear it,” Palmer said of the boos. “You cant block things like that out. But I prepared myself for that.” The first time he tried to pass, Palmer got a hint it would be a long day. Tackle Geno Atkins shot through the line virtually untouched and sacked Palmer as he faked a handoff. Palmer was sacked twice on Oaklands first possession. It never got a whole lot better. With running back Darren McFadden sidelined again by an ankle injury, the Raiders were missing one of their best options. The NFLs most generous defence allowed the Bengals to take control 24-0 in a dominant first half. Green-Ellis found a big hole on Cincinnatis third play of the game and ran a career-best 48 yards before getting shoved out at the 1. Green-Ellis then carried the final yard. On Cincinnatis next series, the Raiders gave up a 44-yard reception by A.J. Green and a 27-yard reception by Jermaine Gresham. Mohamed Sanu made a one-hand touchdown catch for a 14-0 lead. The Bengals had 156 yards after only two series. Daltons 5-yard touchdown pass to Sanu made it 21-0 midway through the second quarter. At that point, the Raiders offence hadnt yet crossed midfield. The half ended with one more Raiders mistake. Marcel Reece had Palmers pass go off his hands, and Chris Crocker intercepted with 8 seconds left. Mike Nugents 55-yard field goal tied the club record and put the Bengals up 24-0. “Just everything went wrong on every side of the ball,” Palmer said. “Just a bad half of football, and unacceptable.” Oakland allowed 289 yards in the half—the most this season—and had only 83 yards, its fewest on offence since it managed 52 yards in the first half at Pittsburgh on Nov. 21, 2010. Sebastian Janikowskis 55-yard field goal ended the shutout in the third quarter, and Palmer beat a blitz by lofting a 20-yard touchdown pass to Denarius Moore. The Bengals got a break in the fourth quarter when an inadvertent whistle wiped out Sanus fumble deep in Cincinnati territory with 7:22 to go. On the next play, the brawl broke out that resulted in the ejections. Notes: Green failed to catch a TD pass, ending his streak of nine games with one. Its the second-longest streak in club history. ... Atkins ninth sack moved him one ahead of Dan Wilkinson for the club record by an interior lineman. ... CB Leon Hall missed a play after he broke up a pass in the first quarter, hurting a finger on his left hand. He got two fingers taped together and returned. ... Chris Bahr also kicked a 55-yard field goal for the Bengals on Sept. 23, 1979 against Houston. Andrew Luck Jersey .J. Burnett save the Yankees season. The centre-fielder foiled his former team with his glove and Burnett came through when New York needed him most, leading the Yankees past the Detroit Tigers 10-1 Tuesday night to send their AL playoff series back to the Bronx for a decisive Game 5. The sixth-seeded Williams fired a career-high 23 aces, the most ever in a Wimbledon womens match during the 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 9-7 win that took nearly 2 1/2 hours. It was a statistical see-saw for Williams, who had 54 winners and 24 unforced errors, but after a break of serve following an overpowering return gave her an 8-7 lead, she was barely able to close out her opponent. Dwight Freeney Jersey . The Trail, B.C., native took a physical Monday, a necessary step to finalize the deal, and the Mets scheduled a Tuesday news conference at Citi Field to introduce their first major free-agent signing of the off-season. Vick Ballard Jersey . In other action, Donald Cerrone defeated Melvin Guillard via knockout and Jake Shields won by unanimous decison over Ed Herman.PITTSBURGH—A day after leaving practice a few minutes early because a teammate stepped on his foot during a drill, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not practice Sunday. The two-time Super Bowl winner denied a Saturday report that he had a left ankle sprain, characterizing it as a “simple bruise.” “He should be fine,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “Well take a look at it, hell be a day-to-day thing, see how he goes from there.” The Steelers do not practice Monday, so Roethlisberger said giving his body 48 hours off was part of the reason for not practicing Sunday. “Its good, no worries,” Roethlisberger said. The news was not as positive regarding the five Steelers still on the physically unable to perform list: nose tackle Casey Hampton, outside linebackers James Harrison and Jason Worilds, running back Rashard Mendenhall and offensive tackle Max Starks. Tomlin indicated it will be the end of the week at the earliest before any are cleared for practice. “The vast majority of the PUP guys are week to week,” Tomlin said after Sundays practice. “So well evaluate their position when we get back from Philly.” The Steelers (No. 7 in the AP NFL32) open preseason play Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers practice Sunday was moved from its camp at St. Vincent College near Latrobe, Pa., about an hours drive away to the indoor facility the team shares with the University of Pittsburgh. Thats the third different venue in three days for a Steelers practice, counting the annual Friday night practice at Greater Latrobe High School. “I thought they put aa nice exclamation point on a good, competitive weekend,” Tomlin said. Reggie Wayne Youth Jersey. . “We put them in a variety of unusual circumstances, and they responded. From Friday Night Lights to short-yardage and goal-line, to the logistics of coming down here and performing, I like the way the group is showing me that theyre capable of playing anytime that we roll the ball out under any circumstances.” The circumstances got even more bizarre Sunday when the lights went out as a thunderstorm rolled through. Practice was halted for about a dozen minutes. USA Today reported Saturday that Roethlisberger sprained that same left ankle he injured against the Browns in December, but on Sunday the quarterback denied the ankle was sprained. “I dont know where that came from; it completely just got stepped on,” he said. Roethlisberger, who turned 30 in March, revealed last week that he has a slightly torn right rotator cuff. He has not missed any practice time nor did he miss any games last season because of the shoulder. Of the five players remaining on the PUP list, all but Worilds are considered starters— although Starks might be getting bypassed by rookie Mike Adams at left tackle. Adams is running with the first-team offence in practice. Worilds is Harrisons backup, and the teams other starting outside linebacker, LaMarr Woodley, has missed multiple practices with a knee injury. That has left the Steelers perilously thin at outside linebacker, though Woodley did practice Sunday. NOTES: CB Curtis Brown left practice early due to knee soreness. ... P Jeremy Kapinos continues to be absent from practices because of back pain. ’ ’ ’
