TruV, an organization ran by Cody Smith is attempting to use twenty-first century technology to aid those who are visually impaired to those that are completely blind. We are excited to announce that BUG Labs has taken interest in our project and will be providing us with our very own BUG to prototype a device that could drastically change the lives of over forty million people across the world.
The device and its functions are explained in the diagram below:

The idea started with my own personal frustration that the world had not already developed such a device even though the technology had been around for years. While using my camcorder I found that the viewfinder and optical zoom-lens assembly was the solution, right there in my hand. Someone just needed to take these technologies and mash them together. Since no one was jumping up and taking action I took the job on myself.
I plan to use the BUG development platform to prototype my device with the hopes of getting some real R&D money from various organizations that work with disabled persons and students, many of whom cannot drive because of their disabilities. I myself am legally blind.
Anyway thanks very much to the BUG group,
I will keep the community updated on this project.

Can you update us with the status of this project?
Cody,
Any progress with that?
Actually, I'm a reporter with Bloomberg New writing a story about Bug and open source hardware. I think your project is very interesting and is a great example of how this approach to development can spur innovation and fulfill unmet needs.
I would love to talk to you about. Drop me a mail if you are interested.

Thank you

Update: Yesterday marked the start of the robotics build season. Right now with school starting back up and robotics in full swing my hands are tied but I am hoping that the Invent Your World competition will pan out for TruV and give us $1,000 to further develop the glasses.

Cody - awesome. Make sure to keep us posted with the grant, the 'big' news, and the interview. Loads of cool stuff going on for you!
A little update. Things seem to be spinning around my world, I have entered into the Invent Your World challenge/competition at: http://www.inventyourworld.org/
Fifty selected individuals will receive $1,000 as a grant for the completion of their projects. A winner who completes his or her project will receive a $20,000 scholarship.
In addition my technology director has informed me that he has something “big” that “may not pan out, so I don’t want to tell you yet.” What I do know about this is that someone from FIRST Robotics is interested in interviewing me for something… Details are rather sketchy at this time but man am I bursting with excitement on the insides.
