Just how simple is Bug? Can ANYONE figure it out? Sure!
Here is my experience using the Bug. I have no computer science, java, or programming experience. Ever.
.Downloading the BugLab software was extremely simple. I just followed the onscreen instructions in the Wiki tutorial at http://www.buglabs.net/start, did a quick reboot, and had all the necessary software installed.
.After locating the USB port on my computer and following the networking instructions, it was pretty simple to get the BugBase up and running in the system.
.When I tried to carry on to the next step in the tutorial, I realized I didn't know how to boot the program I thought I had just downloaded. Turns out, I needed to follow this wiki instead because the first link was only a software patch: http://bugcommunity.com/wiki/index.php/SDK_Install_Guide
.About ten minutes later, the Eclipse download finished and I opened up the software. Under: Window > Open Perspective > Other....> Dragonfly, I was finally ready to go ahead with installing an application. I switched back to the main tutorial.
.Once in the Dragonfly perspective, it was simple to connect my Bugbase via the “My Bug” box. If you don't see it go to Window>Show View>Other>Dragonfly>MyBug
.Under the center “Welcome” console, I selected “download Bug applications” and decided to try the “draw pad” app.
.Now what? For someone with no solid background in computer science, this part is a little frustrating. I've downloaded the application and it's sitting in project explorer. But how do I get it onto the Bug? Hmm...
.Finally! Once I had “Draw Pad” in the project explorer, I right clicked it and pressed send to Bug. (duuh!) I thought I'd be done there but nothing seemed to happen on the LCD screen. Randomly, I decided to move the location of the BugView to a different slot on the Bugbase. I pressed the first button on the BugCam and there I was, literally. A picture of the my face (upside down) was right there on the screen. By touching the screen I could freely draw on the picture to give myself a nice green mustache, or some red devil ears.
.This served as proof that Bug can work for ANYONE, not just serious computer programmers!
